Booked into this hotel for 2nights 11-13th july,This was meant to be a family trip where we were able to take are dog aswell, Informed the hotel the day before when we will be arriving and that we had a car which would of been in there carpark, however when we arrived there was only a carpark for 4cars, NO space was reserved for ourselves, we asked reception about this and they wanted me to park my car down the street beside a bar, this wasn't acceptable as it was the 11th july in NI and who in there right mind would park a car outside a bar overnight??. I wasn't even encouraged to stay at the hotel, receptionist was rather rude, owner for the hotel didn't seem to care when asked for my deposit back. The hotel itself was rather small and very old fashioned and rather a dump. Anyone who is booking this hotel beware

Room Tip: Don't book this place there is better places, and customer service skills is Nil

Criticism is welcome as a means of ensuring that high standards are maintained. When we fall below these standards we are disappointed and can only apologize for our failures. However when a review is based on a totally misleading account of the actual events then we feel ew have the right to defend ourselves. Firstly we admit that the small car park we have onsite is totally inadequate but as has been mentioned in previous reviews we have additional secure parking at a private house which we have used for over 20 years without incident. This lady was told that if the small car park at the hotel was full ( in actual fact there was still one space which she could have taken) she could park at the private house.. At no stage was it suggested that she would have to park her car outside the hotel bar or on the street. Parking at the private house was offered both by the head receptionist and myself but that wasn't referred to in her review. Independent witnesses praised the receptionist for her reasonableness under fire and the only issue may have been when she asked the lady to stop shouting.
As to the accusation that we didn't seem to care, this accusation seems to be based on the fact that we agreed to her demand for a full refund. We simply explained that if she wasn't happy with our parking arrangements then of course we would give her a full refund and our apologies. Maybe if we had refused to reimburse her she would have found us more caring.
As to her condemnation of the hotel itself, five minutes in the foyer in an agitated state is hardly sufficient grounds to make a credible review of the hotel.

We stayed over the weekend as we went to Tollymore Forest Park. We really couldnt have picked better. A really lovely building with plenty of charm and character. On arrival we were greeted by Pat (lovely guy) who made sure we were parked ok and were happy with the room which we were shown to, which was amazingly spacious and tastefully decorated. Crisp white cotton sheets with a pretty red trim. Storage space - which is usually a problem when away - was more than ample, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. A plug socket next to the mirror - again usually a problem but not here - was very helpful. Lots of coffee available to make too. A hairdryer, iron and trouser press was also provided.
The bathroom was a good size, and very nice with lots of lovely hot water and shower gel provided beside the bath. A good powerful shower to wake you up in the morning :)
Meals were excellent and the girls in the restaurant were friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. Absolutely nothing is too much trouble here, all staff were so helpful and made you feel so welcome. I would definitely stay here again and have no reservations about recommending this place to friends.
Really excellent location, a 2 min walk to the sea front and only a short drive up to Tollymore Forest. Mourne mountains as a backdrop provide a beautiful view.
Really wish we could have stayed longer. We will be back as soon as possible.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 210, it is on the street side but we didnt find that we were at all disturbed by n...

Myself, My wife, Mother in Law and 3 friends paid a visit for afternoon tea to the Donard Hotel whilst visiting Newcastle this week.
The service received was superb, we were all very pleased by the friendliness and the attention paid by all of the staff and found it to be first class,
I would personally recommend the Donard Hotel and will visit again when in Newcastle.

Groupon deal. Had to change our dates a few times. This was not a problem with Pat the owner. Staff were lovely. Food was very nice. Hotel is a bit dated but everything is available. Great location and well priced. Thanks

Stayed in this hotel recently for two nights with a Groupon deal. The hotel, though clean, is very tired and badly in need of a revamp. Hotel staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The evening meal was very poor and nigh on inedible, while the breakfast was mediocre and lacking in choice. I would not pay their standard rate for this dated, tired hotel with such poor cuisine

My parter and I stayed for a weekend away. The hotel is creaky and old but it all adds to the character. Its a lovely hotel-basic but you have everything you need.
The big plus is the staff, you will never get a greater bunch off people they are friendly and helpful and nothing is too much bother. We have stayed in a lot of 4 star hotels.. but the service here exceeds all. The resturant serves big potions for cheap... and its gorgeous food. Really enjoyed the stay.

Had a day trip to Newcastle yesterday, 6 of us, (this included 3 wheelchair users). We knew this restaurants location as we'd been about 2 years ago. It was superb! the waitress couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble for her and we were made to feel more like friends rather than customers. Tables were re-arranged for us, extra plates, place settings etc appeared without fuss. The food was brilliant (very reasonably priced) and not long waiting time which suited the folks with us. We were assured just to take our time when getting organised to leave. Thank you sooo much for adding to the enjoyment of our day out. We certainly hope to visit again.
