Owner description: Castle Ward will take you on a journey of discovery. The 18th-century eccentric house with two distinctly different styles, classical and Gothic, will entice you to explore further. This truly beautiful 332-hectare (820-acre) walled demesne, with walking trails, exotic garden, stunning vistas and picturesque farmyard, will unlock your imagination through family history, leisure pursuits, events and industrial heritage. A children's pastimes centre and laundry room are a short walk from the house in the stableyard, alongside a gift shop, second-hand bookshop and tea-room.

Stayed two nights in a family sized pod @ £45 per night. Pod is set in a tree covered wooded area overlooking Strangford Lough. Pod has own picnic table, BBQ area, electric socket & lighting. Plenty of room for two double blow up beds & room left over to store bags etc. Shower facilities & toilets clean & close by ( you have to pay a £20 deposit for key to access. Refundable on return of key). Small shop on camp also.
Campsite is well maintained & great for all the family. Lots of trails to walk/cycle & you can rent canoes or bicycles. We all loved it!

“Expensive and we were too late to go round the house.”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

The house from the outside is lovely and the grounds are lovely. We walked down to the shore and this has a lovely view right across the water on the other side. Ideal for picnics, barbecues and just sitting and relaxing. The entrance fee is expensive and we paid over £17 before we were then told we were too late to go round the house which we though was a bot of a cheek.

“Great campsite”
Reviewed August 11, 2013 via mobile

First time we had camped here and were well impressed.

The site is a nice size, layout is good with caravans on the outside and tents in the middle.

The warden was really friendly and helpful and did a walkabout at night and in the morning, he's on site 24x7. Quiet enforced from 11pm.

Toilets and washing facilities were really clean and plenty of hot water.

Lots of great walks/cycle routes and surrounded by woods which the kids loved playing in.

Strangford is only a short walk/drive and has supermarkets and a chippy.

Great spot and we look forward to returning, maybe even try staying in one of the pods next time.

“need better info”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

Had a lovely day in Castle Ward Estate beautiful house with a very informative tour guide Barbara made it very interesting. Lovely gardens and walks aroung the Estate. Nice little resturant and a great day of Jazz being played in the coutyard. The one downfall was that the girls at the entrance did not inform us that we needed to book a time for our tour. It was more important to they to try and promote National Trust membership. The staff at the reception were very helpful and were able to squeeze us in with another tour otherwise we would have had to wait an hour ant thirty minutes, we had already been there for an hour. Well done to the reception staff. It is not good to leave the other staff else to pick up after someone else.

“Great place for a day out”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

Castle Ward offers a lot to do: beautiful gardens, scenic nature trails, bike and kajak renting. The tour of the house was my personal highlight, because the guide explained a lot and was so entertaining that history truly came to life.
