“disgusting”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

we had two rooms booked as we were attending a wedding close by in downpatrick when we arrived and checked with the staff where the car park was we were told it was in the tiny area at the back in among picnic tables which only had space for about two cars. then on entering the hotel the first greeting at reception was a very dirty mat at the door and the awful smell of whatever oil they use to cook. after standing waiting for a while i had to look for a staff member, the girl looked less than enthusiastic however she did change our rooms so the younger ones in the group had the room on the higher floor. on going upstairs the carpet was filthy i think it was supposed to be green but was more black and the smell from downstairs was even stronger. the rooms were disgusting there was enough dust under the beds that i could have written this review in it!!! the dust was also piled in the corners of the room especially behind the doors, the bathroom had mould growing in it and hairs in the bath. the whole place needs a really good clean. we then checked out a few minutes later, on giving the keys to a different staff member she didnt look surprised and never said a word. i would not recommend this hotel to anyone it is disgusting and the service is really bad especially as the young guy i spoke to on the phone when booking was lovely. i will never stay here.

My husband and I stayed here as we were attending a wedding at the Ballyduggan Mill and we could not get a room anywhere else. The whole hotel is very run down and dirty. The bedroom was really bad. Everything was thick with dust including the decorative cushions on the bed. The floor was really dusty and there were cobwebs all round the windows. The bath was the worst though, the shower curtain around it was black with mould and mildew, it was so gross I was afraid to touch it so ended up soaking the floor! It was remniscent of dodgy student accomodation! However, the bed itself was clean and there were clean towels and hot water. The staff were friendly and helpful but this hotel is definitely not worth £70 a night and we could not recommend it.

The hospitality at Denvir's is top notch. The music after dinner is fun, but if you don't plan to attend look up the dates ahead of time to avoid it or bring earplugs. We personally were not bothered and the teenagers enjoyed it. Breakfast was my favorite out of all the B&B's we stayed in N. Ireland. Rooms are spacious and it has an ideal location in the middle of lovely Downpatrick.

Stayed 2 nights recently in Denvir's. It is located in the town centre which ideal for walking around. It is a historic and old world hotel which has some lovely unique features. We had dinner in the restaurant the first night and it was pleasant enough. We retired early and found it hard enough to get to sleep as there are bands playing all weekend and we could hear the whole thing. When this finished and all the bar drinkers went home, we were kept awake by the occupants of the room above us. The floors are wooden, so every move they made we heard. I believe the rooms have recently been done up and while they are not bad could do with a little more TLC. Breakfast is served in the bar (would have preferred the restaurant) but they will give you what ever you order. The whole experience reminded me a bit on Faulty Towers. The car park is quite small and hard enough to get in and out of when other cars there but the staff will again help out if required. The big plus for this hotel is its staff who are very pleasant and helpful.

Stayed at Denvirs two nights recently. On the plus side this hotel is ideally located in the town centre, it's old world style, staff are very friendly and helpful, bar atmosphere is great as is the entertainment.
Breakfast was just average, but plenty off it.
The rooms are badly in need of a makeover and are quite honestly very tatty. Old floorboards are great but the gaps between them harboured lots of dirt and dust. There was ample hot water all weekend, but the bathroom was very basic with grubby tiles and surroundings.
The stairway carpet has seen better days and is in need of renewal.
A bit noisey until 1am when the band stops, so bring your ear plugs. However the bands were great.
All in all not bad value for a couple of nights in the centre of the town but would not like to spend a week there.

Room Tip: Room 6 is farthest away from the bar

Tucked away in the heart of this historic town is this old hotel. It's querky layout and thick walls are filled with history. We called in for Sunday lunch and had a choice of the dining room or the bar. As we'd eaten in the bar previously, we opted for the dining room. It was nicely decorated with a massive fireplace in one corner. The tables had white linen covers and the seating was pleasant. The waitress promptly offer menus and brought some chilled water. We were delighted by the choice and the special offer of two courses for only £10. I choose the gammon and my partner went for the roast beef. Both came with mashed potatoes and a selection of veg. As we decided to select from the desert menu, I picked the two berry crumble with ice cream whilst my partner went for the cheese board selection (an excellent choice). We also had coffee to wash things down. All in all, we were very satisfied by the food, the service, the atmosphere and the fantastic price. We will certainly be back again.

Room Tip: If you are in the historic town to visit St.Patrick's grave, you'll pass the Hotel on the st...
