After a long journey I reached Ballymote House and was pleasently surprised by this beautiful house and most warmly welcomed on my arrival. I stayed at Ballymote for a few nights as I was doing a course. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Nicola and James are a lovely couple and were more than helpful to me. The accommodation is charming and I have to say the food was fantastic!
I would love to return and stay here again.

We changed plans at the last minute & were lucky to find Ballymote House just outside Downpatrick.James & Nicola made us feel part of the family for the 2 nights we were there. They helped with restaurants nearby & golf at Ardglass which is really worth doing if you're into golf. Also recommended a black taxi tour of nearby Belfast which we found quite enlightening. Thanks for showing us Northern Ireland hospitality.

I arrived at Ballymote House feeling rather jaded and left feeling thoroughly rejuvenated having enjoyed such a warm and friendly welcome, absolutely delicious food and wonderful nights sleeping in my comfortable bed! My tastefully furnished room looked out over the garden and the beautiful surrounding rolling countryside and James and Nicola are generous and hospitable hosts. I am looking forward to coming back in the future!

So glad you were able to relax and recover in the peace of Ballymote! It has that effect on masses of our guests who come down in the morning saying that they hadn't slept as well in years! Do hope to see you again

Having found is superb guesthouse I booked a few nights accomodation with my partner as a wee romantic break. How surprised we where when we came up the drive through the Laurels and Rhododendrons to find such a splendid house to call home for a few days. We where warmly welcomed by James & Nicola the owners, who made us feel like old friends coming to stay for the weekend. From the splendid facade of this Georgian House we where not disappointed with the interior which was a lovely eclectic mix of antiques, family heirlooms and immense family history. We found our room on the first floor and where amazed at the fantastic bed that waited for us. The bathroom was immense filled with lovely products to pamper yourself !!!
Breakfast was beautiful and bountiful with locally sourced products and some of Nicola's home produce preserves and chutney's. We prebooked a picnic hamper to enable us to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside of Lecale ... We found James and Nicola a wealth of knowledge about "off the beaten track tourist areas" to explore and thoroughly enjoyed our weekend break. Make sure your visit the ruins of Inch Abbey and St Patricks Church at Saul.
We will be back to stay for longer next time .... when hopefully we will have time to enjoy more of Ballymote House and Nicola's home cooking.
We are looking forward to ordering items online when she is up and running with this side of their business.

Room Tip: Any room as they are all superb !!!!!!

We had to return to the area recently and had no hesitation in booking ourselves into Ballymote House. This was our 3rd visit and we where warmly welcomed by both James and NIcola. It made us feel ike we where more house guests than paying guests. We where again shown to our favourite room which over looks the courtyard garden and then terrific views leading the eye into Downpartick. Breakfasts where absolutely superb as usual served in their lovely dining room. Even the terriers made us welcome. We will be returning again when in the area as this is definatly the place to stay it makes you feel so relaxed, due entirely to the friendly environment which the hosts encourage. So nice that at 6ft2 I can relax and be fully stretched out in a super warm bath !!!!
A must for all foodies and hurry up NIcola we want to buy your home made preserves and chutneys so we can have a taste of Ballymote in our own home as a reminder of our "piece of paradise" til we return.

Room Tip: The largest most comfortable bed we have ever slept in !!! and wow what a bath!!! Overlooks the cour...

I spent five nights at Ballymote Country House recently on a Red Light Equine Photonic Therapy course that owners, Nicola & James hosted. I had a really enjoyable and relaxing time there even though the course was pretty intense. Even with a very full house Nicola and James were wonderful hosts attending to their guests every need. I enjoyed the great breakfast selections and the delicious dinners prepared by Nicola.
The house itself was very comfortable with an interesting decor. There are great places to walk nearby too. I look forward to returning again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
"A Hidden treasure....a real find" Irish Times Not just 'a country house' this is our family home. We are delighted to extend its warmth to all our visitors from Ireland and around the world. Ballymote delights in continuing the best of that renowned country house tradition, informal and apparently effortless hospitality. We understand just how valuable our guests' free time is with today's hectic way of life. That's why, from the moment you arrive, we make sure the outside world feels a world away. Ballymote is as restful, or as relaxingly active, as you want it to be. Your only decision will be how you want to enjoy yourself next! "No where nicer than Ballymote...... Resplendent, elegantly faded charm, blissful beds and great cooking from Nicola are the Ballymote signatures". 100 Best Places to Stay in Ireland Bridgestone Guide. We pride ourselves on our breakfasts; apart from the de rigeur Ulster fry (ours has sausages made by a local butcher to our family recipe and 8 or so other things on the platter) we offer homemade jams, (3 or 4 different types), local honey, fruit from the garden and masses of other delicious things. It will set you up for a day of exploring! One of the many extraordinary things about County Down is the extraordinary amount it offers for visitors to do! But never forget that while at Ballymote, simply doing nothing is as good a way to pass your time as any! We are in the heart of St. Patrick's country; it is an ideal base for exploring one of the most historically and culturally rich parts of Ireland, with wonderful gardens, challenging world renowned links golf courses, spectacular mountains, deserted coastline and unspoilt countryside for walking and horse riding. Come and experience it ... relax, enjoy, above all make yourself at home! Ballymote..... Enthusiastically dedicated to your relaxation. James and Nicola Manningham-Buller ... more   less
