“dump of the year award”
Reviewed March 23, 2012

reading some of the previous reviews its obvious they havent been here in a long time , What has happened to this place ? used to be a childhood fav now it just another run down neglected dump.the gardens and the green house that used to be kept immaculate are so run down i was embarrassed to show my friends i took to visit. the gardens haven't been tended for about 10 years , the castle is a no go area thanks to the Christian group that own it and make you feel really unwelcome with all their do not enter signs so much for love thy neighbour .toilet block stinks and coffee shop a joke , actually paid to park although if there is no attendant you can get in for free as he said there was no checks made and if you got in for free then lucky you. walk ways muddy tracks and swampy land ,keep hold of your kids or just stay away.

“Beautiful forest walk littered with plastic bags...”
Reviewed February 17, 2012

We love this forest park and spent a day here with the kids on half-term break this week. The walk around the lake is well worth the time, a bit boggy after the wet weather but if you prefer to wait until spring/summer to visit then you will find the walking trail wonderful. This week, as on our last visit (August), I was disgusted once more at the amount of plastic bags - mostly Tesco - lying around the lake edge along the walk, discarded picnic debris, plastic cola bottles, left by people who had been fishing etc...makes one furious at the laziness and inconsideration of humans. The sooner Tesco charge a pound per plastic carrier bag the better!

As is usual in the winter months the tea-room was closed, the forest parks do not offer such facilities outside the tourist season so don't bother joining the crowd of people peering through the windows of the tea-room because it wont open until after March.

Take the blue trail - 4 km's and easy to negotiate, but a little slippy in parts when wet. And do the place a favour and take your plastic carrier bags home...better still, don't even bring them in the first place.

“Great little day out.”
Reviewed February 15, 2012

Situated beside the beautiful Mourne Mountains, this is a lovely place for a nice long walk. There are lots of different walks with the main one around a large picturesque lake. It had a massive Maze which is great fun, no matter if you have young or old kids. The other good thing is that its free (except for parking). There is also a touring caravan site tucked away within the grounds which is also popular.

“Unpleasant walk”
Reviewed February 13, 2012

Nobody at the kiosk when we arrived...expected to put £4.50 in a box and no evidence of having paid. Walk around lake was unoleasant, due to eneven surface, and mucky, barely passable footpath. Tjhe scenery is beautiful, but unfortunately ruined by the walking experience. and to top it all, the coffee shop was closed, despite numerous visitors arriving by the minute.
