“Good choice in Ballycastle”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

Went in early and could have had the excellent value early-bird menu, but ended up ordering from the main menu, which was still very good value. A nice piece of salmon with a whiskey and herb sauce, unusual but good. Interesting decor, a bit like an old fashioned railway train banquettes. Very quiet in the early evening, with efficient service. My only reservation was the background music, with singers who all sounded as if they were undergoing some form of exquisite torture (but maybe that's just me).

“Get a Bargin With The Early Bird Menu”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

After reading some reveiws before I wrote this it seems you can't please some people.
We thought we would give this resturant a try.Between 17.00 & 19.00 you can get an early bird menu. This is a two course meal plus a glass of wine (red or white) for Only £9.95p.This is excellent value if you want an early meal and if you have children. You can choose from the main menu if you want but why pay more unless you are into lobster or steaks.I had the Garlic Mushrooms & Gammom with Pineapple and my friend had the Soup and Chicken. Both were excellent washed down with and nice glass of wine.We would go back anytime when we are in Ballycastle.

“Always enjoy the food”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

This is one of our favourite restaurants, luckily we live in Ballycastle. We usually take our visitors there and have had very favourable comments from them. The food is always good quality and the specials menu changes regularly. The set menu is a bit limited but for £10 for two courses and a glass of wine is good value.
The Cellar is a bit quirky in decor, but we like it. The tables are good for two to four guests but a squeeze for more as the seating and tables are static. Usually nice background music. The staff are usually efficient.

“Unexpected surprise!”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

Were staying at a hotel in Ballycastle and drove up town looking for an alternative eaterie. Did not see anything appealing & turned to come back down to go back to hotel when we spotted the Cellar Rest advertising as Ballycastle's best kept secret. It certainly was - mind you - note to owners! we nearly did not come in as the the steps down to the restaurant were rather grubby and needed swept! However the food was awesome and piping hot and the décor very attractive. Agree that the seating is a bit uncomfortable however. Portions are big and so we only ordered one desert - Choc Roulade but even that was plenty for 2 and delicious!!!! Prices were not expensive and we will def be back! Thank you

“DIsappointing food”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

I ordered the haddock from the tea time special menu and it looked like something that was bought in a packet from iceland .The potatoes were baby potatoes that seemed to be microwaved as they had a rubbery skin .It seems like the cheapest way to present the meal was all that mattered ,quality certainly didnt matter.I think it would be best to not have a tea time special when you are not serving quality food. The staff that served were pleasant
