My wife and i visited here on Friday afternoon 13th Sept with our two good friends. We had enjoyed a meal here a couple of months before. I am pleased to say the four of us enjoyed a excellent three course meal. Nice ambience, good service and lovely cooked food made for a very pleasant afternoon. The menu choice was really good and staff were great and very welcoming. We will definitely return here again very soon.

Was there last night with a friend and though an adequately acceptable meal this fell short of the price paid for it and the reputation that proceeds the restaurant.

With my meal of quail and lamb both dishes were woefully under seasoned, the sauces thin and tasteless, and the food served Luke warm. With the quail and pork belly dish, the pork belly was just of a mess of fat, no other flavours to lift the dish. The radish, thin slivers to garnish the dish not add flavour. It was meant to be a vinegrette, there was no sharpness of flavour, it was a bland thin gravy. Peas again garnished rather than adding flavour.

The lamb dish asked for pink, was clearly over cooked. The purple potato in it undercooked, the melange of other root vegetables had flavour but were just steamed vegetables. It was essentially a meat and two veg dish. The sauce, thin and not reduced enough to give any adequate flavour.

Service, rushed, my dining partner remarked, the staff seemed to be rushing from table to table, trying to be attentive, but there was no real sense that they wanted to be attentive of the table. Wine list one of the better ones for Northern Ireland, and decently priced.

Conclusion, this restaurant particularly in the kitchen is suffering with the loss of Stevie Toman.

I discovered this delight by accident while looking for a quick evening meal. The grilled sea bream was superb, and the chocolate pot to die for! Waiting staff very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. It was relatively early on a Sunday evening but the place filled up quickly and there was a real buzz about. Would definately book ahead and make a point of returning on a future visit to Belfast

Yet again another lovely evening had by myself and a few friends on Saturday evening. Food and service always first class and not to forget the cocktails!!! Had scallops to start my favourite! Followed by the loin of lamb cooked perfectly and had to order a side of champ as its the nicest buttery champ I have tasted. We shared some cheese for dessert. Have visited James Street several times and will be back.
