I recently had dinner at Nick's as part of a group of four. The overall impression was that the food was merely ok. The Kettyle steaks were well received, but the smoked salmon main was extremely disappointing (the saffron potatoes lacked flavour and the samphire was exceptionally salty, overpowering the delicate flavour of the salmon).

Given that the food and wine are priced at the top end of the market, it is hard to make a case for a return visit.

Got a recommendation to eat at Nicks while on a trip to see the Titanic in Belfast which was backed up by the usually reliable Bridgestone Guide. There was 10 of is in a group - 4 adults, 2 teens and 4 pre-teens - all good eaters. The lunch menu was a bit of a let down. There was not too much to excite so many of us went for steak with peppercorn sauce as the default option. Others had a dull but worthy chicken dish, a very small, but nice lasagne and a tired looking trip of dips. Not exactly cutting edge but solid.

We were hungry after the Titanic Experience and the walk back into Belfast and were disappointed with the small portion sizes - not so much the steak, which was cooked as ordered and tasty, but the small bowl of accompanying chips which we sought to supplement by asking for extra sides. When sterling difference is taken into account, it all added up and we regretted not taking the Pizza Express option.

On a Thursday night in Belfast we had booked into another restaurant across the street, however on arrival we were to be lone diners so decided to give Nicks another go. Never again, service was slow and unprofessional. Our waiter, who was on his second evening's employment, brought the wrong starter and on complaining there was no evidence of any staff in charge. My husband's seafood platter was good, however my hake was overcooked and inedible. There were few diners and. five staff who paid little attention to their guests. This restaurant has the majority of its dishes premarinated, and as I have an allergy to oils the choice was very limited. A very disappointing evening.
