“"SOMETHING SPECIAL"”

Excellent hotel if you don't mind paying for those little extras. Luxurious room with sumptuous furnishings and antique fixtures, very comfortable beds, good air con and beautiful marble bathroom.Separate shower cubicle would have been perfect. This hotel's best asset is its staff, particularly those in the cocktail bar who are incredibly friendly and helpful. The grand dining room is a breathtaking sight with chandeliers hanging from a beautifully adorned ceiling and service is personal(no buffets here!).The Merchant is perfectly located for exploring the magnificent city that is Belfast.

The 2 day visit only 90 miles away from home was a real tonic. As good as any of the best European hotels I have stayed at in the past . The hotel combines luxury, beautiful decor, warmth, history, and excellent service. The fact that it is a small boutique size hotel is a definite plus. The only problem is that it will be hard to live up to!

This is actually my 4th time stating in The Merchant Hotel and it never fails to deliver on all aspects. From the moment we stepped out of our taxi we were greeted by an extremely helpful friendly concierge, all the staff are extremely professional but also offer that personal touch. The rooms are nothing short of luxurious with showers to die for. The drinks menu is unbelievable with every imaginable cocktail. I am not normally a breakfast person but I can honestlys say its not to be missed. From start to finish it was a truly magnificent stay, just not long enough. I have already made my next reservation and cant wait.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff, with real personal touches - chocolates & a card for my birthday. Couldn't recommend it enough.

We knew immediately from the warm welcome we got from the concierge and reception that we where going to enjoy our stay. We loved the dinner menu on Valentines Day and the service was excellent.(Nice touch with the complimentary cocktails). We stayed in one of the loft suites, I probably would not choose this again as on both windows all we could see was a concrete wall. The room itself was excellent. The location of the hotel was perfect and within a short walk of an excellent shopping centre.
One name that stands out is William the concierge a wealth of info. Also Sean on cocktails, a genius. I wondered about the fact there was no in room bar, However it was not nessessary as the room service was prompt and efficent
As we had come from Dublin I found it odd that we could not get TV pictures from either of the national TV stations of the republic.

From the moment you entered the hotel nothing was too much trouble.
The staff were polite and efficient. The service was second to none.
The decor was superb especially the "Great Room"
Thoroughly a hotel to reccommend!

I have just returned from a two night weekend break at The Merchant Hotel. The hotel is delightful. Some would call it dark but I would call it atmospheric in an18c. French Bedroom sort of way.

The main public rooms were lovely. Interesting artwork and sculptures adorned all the public areas. The hotel was warm and we were delighted that our room had air conditioning too - even in February. The huge high ceilings and plush heavy brocade curtains and soft-furnishing all made for a very comfortable hotel.

The Grand Hall where we had dinner on Friday evening was entertainment itself. From the huge expanse of ceiling relief down to the deep red, boudoir style seating it was boutique hotels at their very best.

I'd recommend the hotel restaurant even if you are not staying overnight. A real treat for any special occasion. Have a cocktail or two in the bar beforehand followed by dinner in the restaruant. I recommend the Dover sole for a main course. They also serve afternoon tea which you had to see to be believe.

The staff (all of them) were helpful without being overbearing. Our room (103, see review below) was over the hotel owned pub and not far from the night club but we heard no loud noise from either of them at any time. Believe me, I would be the first to complain about noise at night - yes earplugs were supplied but in our case not even opened!

The whole hotel has had a lot of money spent on it and it shows. Opulance all the way. A very enjoyable couple of days. Thank you.
