“All the glamour, some of the nonsense!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

It's a very well maintained hotel with well-trained staff and beautiful decor. Sometimes pricing and policy take precedence over the customer, but in Belfast you get the impression that "appearances" are more important than base-line customer service generally, so this place is forgiven. The rooms are lovely and the place seemed fairly well soundproofed from the outside nocturnal nonsense.

What a lovely girlie thing to do...afternoon tea!
Service superb,
Sandwiches, scones and tarts lovely!
We added champagne to the list and felt like royalty!,,
A must for shoppers as a treat but mostly girls there...sorry boys!
Went to Berts bar afterwards which was really chilled out and lovely cocktails
Down side.....bring plenty of 'dosh'

Room Tip: You must book in advance

The first ever time we stayed at the Merchant it was brilliant and i wrote a brilliant review. This time however we were very disappointed!!!! It has been extended and the service is terrible. We waited over an hour for our evening meal in the Great Dining room. The lounges were packed with people from the street and there was no room for the guests that were actually staying in the hotel. We couldn't sleep because of the noise from within the hotel itself. There was no turndown service at all.!!!! Nothing was replaced in the room when it was used. I wrote a letter telling them that bigger is not always better, but got no reply.
Would not recomment this hotel and will never stay there again.

Room Tip: Make sure it's not at the rear of the hotel

Did not stay in the hotel just went for a cocktail in the bar. Beautiful building with a very elegant feel to it. The bar was lovely, very posh but cosy. The cocktail menu is impressive and difficult to choose from as they all sounded good. Waiter took order at table and also brought over complimentary olives, cracker things and amazing cheesy pretzels! My cocktail was delicious but we only stayed for one as they were £10-£15 each!

From the fantastic, professional, attentive and discreet massage and service to the well lit & thought out, steam/sauna, hydro pool & relaxation room this is the perfect place to spend an afternoon.

We didn't stay at the hotel just had a one hour full body Swedish style massage and used the spa facilities.

It was value for money, brilliant location and so relaxing.

The only improvement recommendation would be to perhaps introduce some complimentary toiletries in the changing rooms, but it was overall a truly excellent experience. And all for £70 per person.

I'll definitely be back. Very romantic way to spend the afternoon with someone.

JAZZ: I haven't stayed in the hotel but do use the bar frequently for years on business trips to the port. This is a an oasis in a busy city. Like Jazz, live jazz with a local twist then do not miss this venue.

STAFF: The staff are amazing, very professional yet friendly.

FOOD: I have eaten from the menu at the bar some light snacks, again no problem. The place is clean, warm and has atmosphere like no where in Belfast.

DRINK: only the best wine and the cocktails are made with care, tasting as they prepare your drink
