have stayed here 3 times over 2012. Without a doubt the best hotel in the country. Great staff, superb rooms, lovely and relaxing at all times.Would stay more often if money permitted. We go when we can. They also send offers etc via email regularly, just to entice.
My husband slept perfectly where he doesnt usually with back issues

Fabulous greeting from the lady at reception (sadly can't remember her name) but she is a real credit to the hotel as you felt nothing was too much trouble. Our room was upgraded from a Victorian one to an Art Deco room which was impressive, especially the bathroom in my opinion. A heavenly shower, the best ever in a hotel I've stayed in, and the bath topped it off too :-)

Loved all the little extras about this hotel! From the free toiletries to the lit up mirror for you to get ready in, from the utterly amazing cocktails to the spot on service you receive and the lovely afternoon champagne tea to the pool room to use late at night!

Only a couple of negatives that stopped me given the Merchant Hotel five stars, which it nearly deserves. Me and my partner did not appreciate the door hit and house keeping trying to get into our room in the morning at 10.30! We weren't happy about that! And I wasn't able to check out the spa unfortunately because over the two days I stayed there was no one single appointment time for an hour long massage, so that was a little disappointment as we were guests of the hotel and you should always fit your guests in!

I loved the overall relaxed atmosphere of this place, and hopefully will be back again!

We stayed at the Merchant Hotel on our last visit to Belfast. It was great and is now our preferred hotel in Belfast!

- the restaurant is not only classy, but reasonably priced and the food is excellent;
- the rooms are very clean and some have balconies;
- the bathrooms are beyond belief and some of the best that we have seen in hotels;
- the staff are very helpful;
- the bars are both very nice and reasonably priced;
- the hotel is right in the middle of Belfast and within walking distance on most things.

Room Tip: The older section has balconies for most of the rooms.

We stayed here as a treat over the Christmas holidays and it was worth every penny. Luxurious rooms, fine dining and great ambience. Efficient staff in all departments. Very nice restaurant and bar. Well recommended.

Room Tip: We had a large corner room, lovely.

The Merchant is a truly lovely hotel. Luxurious and classy yet lacking pretension. From the moment we arrived we were treated as VIPs. We stayed in an Art Deco room which was huge and beautifully decorated with a gorgeously comfortable bed. We ate in the Great Room on our first night as a meal from the set menu was included in the rate. The food was divine, three courses of heaven. The cocktail bar was expensive but never have cocktails been made so lovingly and with such passion. There is no shortage of bars or places to eat, both in the hotel and in Belfast. We will be back!

We recently stayed here for the first time and were not disappointed. Indeed, it's an absolutely grand hotel - stately, imposing exterior and art deco type interior - not normally my style, but it worked for a hotel. The rooms are incredibly plush though they are a bit on the dark and overdecorated side ( tassels hanging from ceiling to form a trim, theatre themed decor), but very roomy and cozy. You could hibernate in there! The bar is amazing, albeit pricey. Somehow you don't mind spending a ton for a drink when a charming Irishman spends 10 minutes preparing it in front of you while chatting you up. Definitely worth it. The service at the hotel was absolutely amazing. For instance, we wanted to find a certain type of pub one night and the bellhop gave us the perfect recommendation. We asked how to get there and he pointed the way. After detecting our puzzled looks, he insisted upon walking us to the corner to better point the way. When we still hesitated, he cheerfully said "follow me" and walked us all the way to the pub and literally through the door. Talk about service! (Love that guy - and I'm so sorry that I'm forgetting his name as he was wonderful - there dec. 27th-29th). Also, do not miss the gym/ spa. Note that the spa is downstairs, and the gym is on the roof. Notably, the sauna and hot tub are part of the gym ( read: rooftop). Do not miss an opportunity to soak in the rooftop hottub - pleasantly right across from the historic clock tower which will be at eye level. Fantastic. Would definitely recommend the hotel to others. It is not cheap, but was a great experience and we'd do it again!

Room Tip: We heard from other reviewers that rooms can be noisy, but ours was not. Might want to request a r...

My wife and I had a fantastic relaxing break in this hotel from the 7th - 11th January, the Hotel staff are all so professional,efficient,pleasant and helpful, the food and service are exceptional and there is a variety of dining and entertainment - The Great Hall,Berts Jazz Club and The Soul Night in The Cloth Ear are all excellent and worth a visit. This is our second break in this Hotel and the standard is what we expect from 5 star.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Art Deco room on both occasions and these are excellent.
