“Belfast's New Number 1”
Reviewed February 2, 2014 via mobile

As a family and as a couple we have dined in the best Belfast had to offer which in recent years has been at a high standard. Saphyre has raised the bar. With the possible exception of the Great Room in the Merchant hotel, there's really nothing quite like it. It will only be a matter of time before it gains a Michelin star.

A quick description of the restaurant would be opulent class. It oozes quality. A large group so we had a wide selection from the dinner menu. The pork belly and beef fillet were particularly good and all desserts were divine.

I had reservations about the menu before we arrived as there are no starters under £10 and no mains under £20 ( except on the veggie menu). But the reason is quite simple.... the dishes are a notch above anything else on offer in belfast so you get what you pay for.

A very reasonably priced wine list ( I was expecting dearer) and excellent service.

If you are serious about your food, saphyre is for you

“Fine dining at its best”
Reviewed January 21, 2014

I visited Saphyre with friends over the Christmas holidays and have to say what a treat! From the moment we stepped through the door we knew this would be a quality dining experience. The restaurant is very plush, yet decorated in a way to make you feel at home. The waiting staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was amazing. The 'Ulster Fry' went down a treat with the men of the group. Although obviously not a fry as we know it, they were all impressed and there were clean plates all round. My cured sea trout was very well seasoned and the accompaniments provided a delightful taste with every bite.
The main courses also went down a treat. All the food was beautifully presented with amazing attention to detail and flavours throughout. I really enjoyed my saffron monkfish with rice and those who chose the fillet of beef commented on how tender and succulent it was. Any previous experiences of fine dining I have had, I have enjoyed the food but have left after three courses still feeling as if I could have more. In Saphyre, the quality of the food cannot be beaten and the portion sizes were just right! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occassion and will be encouraging my husband to take me back soon.

“Amazing Afternoon Tea!”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

Afternoon Tea at Saphyre. What a treat. To begin with the staff were so welcoming, decor was beautiful and service during the entire experience was brilliant.
I have been for afternoon tea at other hotels but they don't come close to this.
Gorgeous warm scones, delicious sandwiches, followed by pastries which looked like works of art. Almost too nice to eat but too tempting not to. We were not disappointed and every morsel was superb - the selection of teas was extensive, well explained on the menu and served in magnificent silver tea pots.
The table settings were of the finest china and the furnishings were exquisite.
It was like an escape to another world - you have to go and experience it - you'll not be disappointed.
