“Fantastic Hotel!!!!!!!!!”
Reviewed February 15, 2009

Stayed in the Belfast Malmaison 13th Feb and had a fantastic stay. All the hotel staff we encountered were second to none, I have stayed in and worked in many hotels worldwide and the level of customer service here is hard to beat!! From reception to bar staff everyone was so friendly and had time for you and any questions we had. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and a pleasure to lounge and relax in! We will most definatley be back and would love to now try other malmaison hotels!!!!!!

We stayed at the Malmaison on Sat 7th Feb. We were attending a function at the Waterfront so it was an excellant location. It is also very handy to the new Victoria Square shopping centre with it being only about 3 minutes away. The hotel was nice, the rooms are comfortable and a nice size. However, our room did not have a bath which I like and also it was a little noisy as you could hear the people in the room above walking across the floor. The bar area is good and lively and the food looked nice but we did not taste. No parking so that is a problem if you are driving. Overall a nice hotel, a little more expensive than some others in the area.

Stayed at Malmaison on Friday 6th Feb, was able to check in a little early. Reception was fab so well designed and decorated, even the lifts were fab, Got to the room and was delighted with it, although it did not have a dvd player, i queried this with reception who happily moved me to a room which did have a dvd player, again this room was superb. Real luxury feel and little details that make all the difference.

We ate in the restaurant that evening, i would recomend booking in advance as i did because it was busy and you would be waiting otherwise. Food was excellend, i had the burger my partner had the steakm 2 drink also and the total was about £45 so not bad. Restaurant was as luxurious as the rest of the hotel.

We ordered room sevice next morning, again attention to detail was great and food lovely.

Staff all very nice and helpful. It was a shame we could only stay for 1 night, i will def be back and cant recomment this hotel enough.

Stayed in the Malmaison as we were attending a show at the Odyssey- very handy for this venue you can walk across to the Odyssey without having the hassle of taxis etc.
We also had a bar snack at McHughs pub around the corner very nice and good value before we went to the concert.
The hotel is nice - quite dark - rooms are nicely furnished - small complaint at how small the tv screen is- the bottle of wine at £12-95 on the table was left unopened and be warned the mini bar snacks are only to be consummed if you have your Gold American Express card on you - who set these prices???
My two main complaints for this hotel are (1) lack of parking and no concession at any nearby car parks and (2) the cost of the breakfast - who in their right mind will pay £13-00 for a breakfast?
We got a special room rate of £95-00 room only but surely this should include breakfast - to add £26-00 on for breakfast is crazy.
Come on hoteliers in Belfast if you want to attrract tourists get your prices right - remember half a loaf is better than no bread!

nice hotel and pleasant staff but no parking facilities
no bath robes and breakfast was a rip off and not to mention the noise of the bank next doors generators which staff were aware of but said they could do nothing about. If u want a nights sleep book elsewhere.

The Mal Maison is conveniently located and well kept. Victoria street just on the door step is quite loud with traffic noise night and day, though. The hotel has a certain style with a lot of effort been put into the interior design. The staff were helpful and friendly. Overall, though, there was a certain aura of class missing which I would have expected from a hotel of this price category. This was partly due to restaurant staff who would address customers as "folks" or "guys" and would fail to clean the table between courses. Partly this was because of the clientele. All in all, a pleasant experience, but lacking a certain je ne sais quoi.

My husband and I stayed here last night as a post- Christmas treat and enjoyed it overall with just a few niggles.

We got an excellent deal including dinner via the Mal website and assumed that, as dinner was included, breakfast was too. Oh no! £27.50 for breakfast on the bill when we checked out! Breakfast was beautiful, one of the best, freshest range of choices I've experienced, but I still wouldn't pay £13.95 by choice for a bowl of fruit and a fry! We were aware from the very start that they were trying to throw in extra charges at every turn. When we walked into the room, there was a tray with a bottle of wine and 2 glasses, which we thought was a lovely touch until we saw the £12.95 price tag round the neck of the bottle! I really don't expect this kind of thing from a 4 star hotel.

Having said that, the room was beautiful, the bed was very comfortable and we heard no traffic niose at all. Loved the plasma tv, the DVD player and the DVD/CD library. The staff on reception were very friendly and accommodating, the bar is beautiful, as is the restaurant (the nicest hotel restaurant we have eaten in, in terms of decor and ambience, including the Merchant). The service we received both in the bar and the restaurant was excellent, friendly and attentive without being cloyingly obsequious. The deal we paid for was for the set menu and the food was tasty and well presented. We don't have sweet tooths so we ordered a cheese plate off the a la carte menu and didn't have to pay too much extra for it.

The decor is a bit tired and, as others have said, the level of cleanliness could be a bit higher (dust on the lampshades, crumbs on the dining room seats) but overall we had a lovely, relaxing stay with good service, good food and drink in a lovely, quirky environment.

I will certainly be back, although if I was going to pay full price I think the Europa's executive rooms are still hard to beat!

  • Liked — The general ambience and quirky decor
  • Disliked — The feeling that they were trying to squeeze every last penny out of me, like a budget hotel
