As a lover of Indian food, I was keen to try out Safa after reading about it recently on Tripadvisor. Overall, the quality of the food and service was excellent. We were both very impressed. One point that did irk us was the stringent policy on rice option with the main dishes. My wife and I don't eat a large amount of rice and we like to opt for some nann bread or chips for variation. We were disappointed that our waiter would not allow us to choose another side as an alternative to the rice that comes with all main courses (not without paying extra anyway!). I don't see the reason for this as most other restaurants would be more flexible. Safa gets marked down for that one issue but apart from that I would strongly recommend a visit. If they became more flexible on the side dishes, they would be getting 5 stars from us!

Had visited here before and promised to return on another visit to Belfast. Situated off a Main Street in Belfast. Staff friendly and a broad range of choices on the menu

“Good but what's the problem with nan?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

This place does very good curry but is not without its issues. As usual, I had lamb and it was very good. The brother had the tandoori prawns, again excellent and the sisiter-in-law a chicken korma - not really a cuury in my book but she was happy with it. The wife went for the tandoori sea bass, which was nicely flavoured but overdone, so a point off for that. Additionally for some strange reason the dishes come with rice but nan is an extra rather than an alternative. However, when I sad I preferred a bread to a rice accompaniment, it duly arrived instead of rice and I was pleased to see that there was no extra charge. I don't understand why they don't offer the choice as the included accompaniment. So I rate this as very good rather than excellent. In my opinion you'll do better at the Mumbai 27 in Talbot Street.

“Expected so much more! :-(”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

We went here on Friday night for friends birthday as we could not get to our original choice due to road closures. The restaurant was pretty empty due to protests but nice decor and great staff, however......................................food uninspiring!! We got a platter to share which was just ok but lamb was tough. The main courses all tasted the same despite the fact we had 4 different dishes. The drinks were quite dear as well and although we asked for 2 bottles of house wine it was only when we got the bill and checked it we discovered they had given us dearer wine and of course by that stage it was too late to do anything about it!!! At this time when restaurants and business are losing business we felt that safa could have made more of an effort to ensure people return. We spoke to a few other people in the bar downstairs afterwards who all agreed!!!

We will be sticking to Bengal Brassiere on Ormeau Road in future!!!!

“Excellent value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

Went here for the 2 course lunch @£6.95. A choice of 4 starters and 5 mains. Excellent value for money. Friendly staff. Toilets spotlessly clean, always a good indication of a clean kitchen!!
