“Very disappointing”
Reviewed March 12, 2012

Decided to give the Welcome a try as we had never been before but wished we had stuck to our usual favourite restaurants! My husband's starter of Spring rolls consisted of two huge sausage roll sized ones which seemed to be filled entirely with beansprouts. My Chicken and Mushroom soup contained some very dodgy looking chicken and a few mushrooms floating in what tasted like chicken stock. The main courses of Sweet and sour chicken and Beef in a plum sauce arrived and looked appetising enough. The sweet and sour was passable but the beef was largely inedible - I couldn't even cut through some of it never mind chew it - very poor quality meat. The boiled rice was so dry it came out of the bowl in clumps. The staff were pleasant and efficient but never came near us other than to clear away and take orders. A very disappointing experience. Will not be back!

“Great food and very attentive service”
Reviewed February 6, 2012

Having moved from this side of Belfast many many years ago we hadn't been in this restaurant for a very very long time and decided to go last week and were delighted we did. There were four of us these and all ordered different meals and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our choices. The service was excellent and all staff were so friendly and made an effort to make sure everything was ok for us, etc. Can't fault food or service in any way and will definitely not leave it so long next time!

“disappointing”
Reviewed January 11, 2012

this was suppose to be a really good night out to a reportedly great Chinese restaurant, ,quality was that of a very bad carry out , food was cold , crispy aromatic duck was many things crispy aromatic or hot it wasn't, the main meal was bland and the sweet and sour prawns were big dough balls half cooked, i could go on and on but this just didnt live up to the hype at all and 115 quid for 4 people was unacceptable , sorry to say we wont be back

“Excellent Chinese cuisine”
Reviewed November 19, 2011

My wife and I have been attending here for more years than we care to remember, and it is now a firm favourite for our adult children too. If we want to dine out on Chinese cuisine, then The Welcome is our 1st choice as it caters very well for families, groups and couples with an open dining area, but with some quieter seats for couples towards the rear. The main restaurant is bustling when busy and there is always a lovely atmosphere.
We have tried almost every dish on the menu which is varied, with sizzling, Cantonese, Sichuan and seafood choices to name but a few, and the staff are welcoming, informative, and always make it easy for us to have our sharing banquet style of meal when we attend as a family. (Just ask for rice bowls if you want to use the chopsticks provided.)
I find the salt chilli prawns hard to resist as a starter, or the satay kebabs likewise, whilst the curry is exceptional. On my last visit though I had Mongolian beef, which was divine. Perfectly cooked melt in the mouth beef strips, spicy and full of flavour.
My wife just cannot go past the sizzling garlic and chilli chicken for a main course, which is of gargantuan portion size too.
There is an adequate wine list which is moderately priced, and the evening can be perfectly rounded off with a lovely Segafredo coffee.
Unfortunately I cannot comment on the deserts as I've never been able to fit one in after a starter and main course.
