“Pretentious and misleading”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

Went here with my partner on Saturday, they advertised £5 lunches on facebook and neglected to tell us about half the ones advertised on the page, all they gave us as a choice was 2 salads and a fish sandwich or a turkey dipping sandwich.Went for chili and chips which was basically Mc Donalds chips and Spaghettin Bolognaise with Jalapenos in a bowl COSTING £6.50 each!Even though it said £3.95 /£6.50 but we were not asked small or large?
We wanted a beer and a cider but 'their pumps were getting cleaned',I believe this was a ploy to get more money from Saturday shoppers and buy bottled beers at the same price of a pint.
The staff were like a gang of teenage boys with inside jokes and forgot to give the people sitting next to us their cutlery because they were too busy playing some weird 'waving ' game.
I decided to try one of their cocktails, none of whic are cheaper than £6.50,it was nice enough I must say but it was too expensive.
Overall a very over rated place which is over priced and I wont be back.

Hi Cora,

We never like to hear of bad experiences and this seems like a honest one so we just wanted to take the time like you did to reply to your experience and maybe explain some of your points raised.

You may not be familiar with our little eatery but I'm sure you agree its is small and our daily specials reflect what we can offer in variety but we try to please everyone. That day we ran out of some specials very quickly and trying not to disappoint we added new ones. we only ever have 4 specials on in their nature they are specials most restaurants would only offer one or two we offer 4 and a full a la carte menu too.

As for your interpretation of what a chilli chip is or isn't most places in Belfast offer chilli chips with creme fraiche and sour cream. Our chilli fries our based on our friends recipe he got when working with Heston ( yes name dropping but its true non the less). A lot of time has went into our offering and maybe sometime people don't understand or get our more European approach.

The only thing we do strongly disagree with and lets us know your not a regular of our establishment is the fact you think we are trying to dupe our clientele on our busiest day f trade into purchasing more expensive products than they so desire. We offer on said day a £5 special hardly taking advantage, but to get technical and explain our landlord sold the right of his draft deal to another competitor leaving us with out any service of providing draft and at the minute until may next year its is not our choice what we serve draft wise and its a little presumptuous of you to be so hasty in your response here.

We have a very young team some kids that haven't worked out in other venues and haven't been given a proper chance too. we will always be a place filled with young individual characters that love the place that they work in.

Regards the price of our cocktails we are famous for them we try to deliver a speakeasy concept in and Irish way a loud easy of you will, all our drinks have a minimum of 60ml of alcohol thats almost two shots in comparison to all venues and competitors - we are quite literally value for money for what you get for 1) volume of alcohol for your money 2) unparalleled expertise in preparation.

We would like to welcome you back to give us another try and maybe let us explain what we are all about we very are happy to :)

Regards L&D.

“City centres hidden gem”
Reviewed August 23, 2013 via mobile

My work colleagues and I went to love and death on an unplanned staff night out. Without making a reservation we asked would it be possible to have dinner. 18 people was no problem at a moments notice! The food, service and drinks were all flawless. Would defiantly recommend to anyone who has not experienced what this place has to offer! Could not thank they guys enough for what they have done us. The bar has now became a regular for my team for mid week lunch also. Huge thank you to the team especially Paddy and Anthony for their excellent care and service upon every visit. See you again soon.

“A new favourite!”
Reviewed August 14, 2013 via mobile

I can't say anything that hasn't been said before. Excellent service, excellent food and great value. I wanted something different for a wedding anniversary and this really impressed. Whatever preconceived ideas you have of this place, forget them and do yourself a favour and book a table!

Nice atmosphere, great service and good food at a great price.
Went here with my daughter for a quick lunch.
Good choices for carnivores and vegetarians.
Waiters were friendly and efficient.
Food was good quality - spicy hot dogs and goats cheese salad both enjoyable.
Nice mix of customers and great decor.
Would definitely go back - my daughter says cocktails are awesome
