Comfortable beds, clean and modern facilities. Quiet on the nights we stayed here, which was nice! The rooms were also warm, which was great as the weather was cold. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely would recommend for a stay in Belfast.

i was sent to belfast to reccie the hostels for a large group of students soon to visit the city. i'm glad i did as it's an eyeopener. many hostels are filthy.
this hostel had friendly helpful staff. it's a bit of a walk from the city centre but buses are handy and taxis. the prices of rooms are good. the dorms are basic. you get a bunk bed. that's it. if you want to use one of the few lockers you need to borrow or buy a padlock from reception. linen and a douvet and one pillow and pillow case are provided. towels are not. the heating is not on during summer even if the temperature is cold. the windows dont fit the casings and there's large gaps in them so lets in wind and cold at night. vertical blinds keep the room dark but not draught free. the bed lights dont work. just the main ceiling light which wakens everyone when someone comes in late. the beds are very squeaky and tend to waken folk when you turn. i had to double my pillow up to have proper support. should have been given two pillows each. the mattress was ok to sleep on for a few nights. there's a shared showerroom ours had a film of black filth in the corners and floor and the drain jammed up leaving nowhere to stand and get dressed that was dry. there's a toilet there too. the handle was broken. the showerfloor felt slimy underfoot when wet. not pleasant. water was warm but goes cold on and off. must be other showers doing something to the pressure. there's also a pipe knocking noise inside the dorm rooms which can waken you and also very loud barrel rolling sounds from outside and clanking. this is at the back, the front is meant to be much worse due to main st noise. in the hostel by reception there's an area where you can hire a pc/internet, next to it, a good cafe open for breakfast up to 11am, and a self catering kitchen you can use, i read online it would be open from early morn to 11pm. but when i tried to get into make myself breakfast on my first day at just after 11am i was told i wouldn't be able to get in to 12.30pm. i wasnt given a reason. not impressed as i had little money for buying food in cafes outside. i bought one of their breakfasts the next day to see if it was as good as they made out. that's a no. it was piled up one item ontop of the other like in a posh restaurant on a side plate. when i tried to eat it, it came crashing down and onto the table as the plate wasn't big enough. can't say i enjoyed it. bacon and sausage was tastless, egg was dry. beans the cheap kind. i make better at home. but had to try out this thing they have for soda bread but it's just very dry, thick and wide tasteless gunk. staff was very friendly though. on the whole, it was a place i could stay for a short visit but i'd want a warm room, clean showers and a decent tv room to spend time in if i was staying any lengthy visit. their tv room was a small, exceptionally filthy place which you woud not have sat in. not aired either. there was no remote control for the tv anyway. it looked like a number of folk had peed on the chairs and couches there. a gallery overlooking the front door with beanbags looked a nicer option for a chill out spot but no tv. must try better belfast international hostel. you have the potential to be good with a decent manager.

Room Tip: get one at the back but you'll still hear clanking, banging and barrel rolling thro the night and early morning

Hi Jackie

Many thanks for taking the time to review our Belfast International Youth Hostel. As Belfast's largest hostel we supply accommodation for large groups from across the world throughout the year, many of which are repeat customers.

The heating in the hostel is actually on a timer and is programmed to go on for several hours in the morning and several hours in the evening (throughout all seasons). To ensure we can keep our room prices low and also for environmental reasons we switch the heating off during the day as most of our guests are out and about sight seeing.

I'm sorry to hear that you had issues with the shower rooms and also the bedside lights - this is something that will be immediately addressed. With regard to not being able to access the Self Catering kitchen after 11am one day for over an hour; the kitchen is closed for a short period every morning so housekeeping staff can ensure that it is thoroughly cleaned, however you should not have had to wait for such a long period of time and for that I sincerely apologise.

With regards to your comments about The Causeway Café - the majority of our reviews who mention our café speak glowingly about the food, however this is a completely independent establishment from the hostel and is not run by HINI and therefore you may like to leave your comments on the "Causeway Cafe's" own trip advisor page for Alan to review and respond to himself.

If you would like to discuss your points in further detail please do not hesitate to contact me (Cathy) at Head Office on 02890324733 or email me at marketing@hini.org.uk.

Many Thanks

Cathy

Unless you are out and about and eating at the kebob place about 2am. The street gets so loud it woke us up both nights. So, moral, go out dancing if your are staying on the weekend.
Floors and rooms have the feel of like a school or industrial type. The room was good sized, but meh. Shower room was weird with no curtain or door.
Staff was decent and parking on site and gated, so that was nice.

Hi Shaun

Many thanks for taking the time to review our Belfast International Youth Hostel - your feedback is vital to us as an organisation so we can continue to improve our offering in line with what our customers want. I'm very sorry to hear that your sleep was disturbed due to the street noise outside. Unfortunately due to our City Centre location - street noise (at the weekends) can sometimes be an issue and is completely out of our control. If you ever return to Belfast and choose to stay with us again, we will do our very best to ensure you are accommodated in a room at the back of the building.
