“Great Place to Stay”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Just spent an excellent weekend in Belfast and was pleasantly surprised how nice this hotel was. We had a very spacious room, nicely set out. The hotel is set in a vibrant part of the city full of night life and a lot of varied restaurants. We ate in the hotel on our first night and the deal was 2 courses and a bottle of wine for £30. I could not beleive how good the food was for that price, i had the smoked haddock that was superb, i felt as though that was a real bargain and would of happily paid more. The only minor gripes i can say are that the room we were in (106) was a little noisy because it was above the bar, the restaurant stafff were borderline grumpy although helpfull enough and the massive bed was actually 2 smaller oned shoved together which was an annoyance. Overall I would stay there again, no problem.

Room Tip: If you don't like noise avoid 106 above the bar.

We were greeted by a very friendly lady at the check in desk. Made our way up to the room and were blown away by the standard and size of the room. I lay on the bed and I was very surprised at the comfort. The sun was shining outside and this hotel set my wife and I in an even better mood for our night away. Knowing the area well I knew it was ideally located within walking distance from the main Botanic area and the very nice park and the Botanical Gardens (which I had planned to take my wife for a leisurely stroll) The staff and facilities in the hotel were first class and I would definitely encourage anyone who hasn't stayed there to try it. I am originally from Belfast and have often wanted to stay here and I am certainly glad we did this time!

Absolutely beautiful hotel. The room we stayed in was massive and very well decorated, We ate in the hotel restaurant and thought the food was top drawer. The staff were great, in particular the overly helpful receptionist. The hotel is situated slap bang in the middle of the city.

A great hotel in a fantastic location. I loved this. There isn't much to the hotel except the rooms (which are immaculate and roomy) and the bar/restaurant (which is fun and delicious). You get more than what you pay for in terms of quality so if you're looking for somewhere in the centre of Belfast that's top quality and mid priced you should be here.

Room Tip: The standard double is as good as the more expensive options.

We couldn't help but write a review with an average rating. This hotel has so much potential, it just needs a makeover and professional management to make it top ranked. There clearly were a couple of things we liked: space of the room and bathroom, the sound system and tv, friendliness of receptionist and foremost the location of the hotel. We really disliked however : 1) the breakfast area on the left of the entrance: Walls at the far end of the "buffet" were very dirty and the wall paper was pealing off at several places. Arrangement of chairs & tables made it look like a cheap coffee shop at a train station. 2) breakfast: the "buffet" was lacking diversity and was nothing to write home about. Actually, the word "buffet" was an insult. There was one bowl of fruit salad, if it was empty by 09:30 am it wasn't replenished although breakfast time ended at 10:00 am. Juices were not freshly made and tasted flat. Toast was lacking taste and cereals were presented packaged. (Motel or Boutique Hotel?) If a box of cereal was opened by somebody but not emptied entirely it was put back to the sealed boxes. Really? The daily "a la carte" menu only consisted of eggs in all varieties and porridge, nothing else. We traveled for a month through Ireland and didn't want to eat eggs every day. Every simple B&B offered alternatives and healthier choices. We just have no idea were others who praised this breakfast ever stayed before. Staff in the breakfast area wasn't very energetic and never had a smile on their face. 3) Floor leading to room 206: you step out of the elevator and face a mega dirty door used by cleaning staff. Has management ever been on this floor? How about some cleaning and some fresh paint? Carpets were stained. 4) Room 206: furniture was clearly used extensively, at least that's how the wood looked like...scratched on all the etches. Chairs were comfy but had stains.
Overall, the hotel doesn't deserve more than an average rating. Management has to take care of lapses and less rely on positive ratings. With little investment and staff training this hotel has so much potential.

Location was good, right in the middle of the Queens area about 10 minutes form the city centre.

Room was modern & clean, the bed was a little soft for my taste but that's just me. Breakfast was decent and the staff were always polite and helpful.

My only gripe was the poor design of the shower. It was impossible not to flood the bathroom floor which made it very slippery and quite dangerous. Also, there was no where in the shower to put your toiletries apart from the base which wasn't the most convenient.

Room Tip: Room 213 was at the back of the building. It was away from the elevator and and very quiet. Decent a...

The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. They have a baby listening service which allowed us to eat in their restaurant. The food at breakfast and dinner was fantastic, the location in the university area was perfect and the hotel was very well kept.

Room Tip: We had a roadside room but the double glazing was so good that the room was silent.
