“Nice hotel close to Belfast City Centre”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

Nice boutique hotel tucked away in a quiet street in South Belfast. Easy walking distance to the City centre with buses and Botanic station close by, lot of good local restaurants and bars. The hotel is very modern and clean, staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Our room did not have much of a view but was very comfortable, nicely furnished and clean with a nice bathroom. There was no lift which was the only downside if you have heavy bags. The breakfast was outstanding, I would happily stay here again without a second thought.

We planned to go to this hotel for 1 night - 22-nd of March. We paid for rooms preliminary. But due to snow storm ALL flights to Belfast were cancelled (airports of Belfast were closed for whole day). After return to home we contacted hotel for return of our money or move our reservation for future dates due to force majeure situation. All our requests were refused. They said that we didn’t inform them about non-arrival of our flight (they can look at the window or switch on TV) and they didn’t re-sell our rooms to somebody. TO WHOM THEY CAN RE-SELL ROOMS IN CLOSED FOR SNOW STORM TOWN?
IF YOU PLAN TO GO THERE, DON’T PAY IN ADVANCE!

Dear Artem

As promised in your email you have posted your review – thank you!

On 14 February 2013 you booked accommodation with us, choosing the cheaper advance purchase rate, which was clearly noted as being neither non-refundable nor transferable. But that, in this case, is by the by.

On Friday 22 March I, along with all of the people of Belfast, woke to a snow fall which got heavier as the day progressed. On arrival to Tara Lodge that morning, my receptionist and I discussed the very likely possibility that flights into Belfast would be affected by the snow. As I knew guests would need to cancel or change dates at the last minute, I authorised my receptionist to agree to change reservations or to offer gift vouchers. Therefore any guests who contacted us to cancel their booked accommodation were indeed given the option of changing their arrival date. Despite the snow our email and telephone were in perfect working order. You did not contact us to request a refund until the afternoon of Thursday 28 March, six days after you were due to stay with us.

With both airports closed on the day of Friday 22 March, there were people who couldn’t fly into Belfast but there were also many who couldn’t fly out of Belfast and therefore needed accommodation for that evening. If you had told us on Friday 22 March that you did not need your reserved rooms I AM CERTAIN THAT WE WOULD HAVE RE-SOLD THE ROOMS.

I wonder whether you would have posted your review if we had refunded your payment after you ‘promised’ to tell of your experience on Tripadvisor?

Kind Regards

Nora Douds

Stayed here for one night over easter for some R+R.

Good points:
1) Staff friendly & helpful (especially when DVD player did not work & we were disturbed by noisy neighbours during night)
2) Very clean hotel and classy/modern dining room
3) Comfiest bed EVER. I've stayed in many a hotel & this was seriously the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in; I could barely get out of it in the morning! Beautiful crisp and cosy linen too.
4) Clean & modern bathroom. Water pressure fantastic for a bath or shower. Towels massive and fluffy.
5) Location is brilliant!
6) Breakfast was heavenly - the porridge was gorgeous (I don't even like porridge usually!) and the cooked breakfast was presented beautifully and tasted delicious. Service was impeccable too and the dining area clean & bright. A classy affair!
7) Hotel parking - unusual in Belfast!

Bad points:
1) DVD player didn't work even when replaced (nobodys fault though)
2) The walls are very thin so you can literally hear everything from neighbouring rooms - we could hear the folk next to us using the toilet & every time they ran water, watched TV or even talked. This was quite disturbing as it went on late into the night & thus kept us awake although staff were great when we mentioned this to them.

Neither of these were huge deals though & we will definately be staying again because the rest of the stay was fantastic!

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper like we are ask for a quiet room!

Had a really good stay here, only issues were the room backing onto train tracks so can get a bit noisy (we were in room 17) , also the mattresses weren't firm enough for us, but thats personal preference.

Breakfast was awesome, and staff couldnt have been more friendly or helpful.

Absolutely loved this hotel. Very friendly staff, and lovely décor throughout. My room was spacious and warm (it was cold and snowy outside); the bathroom was also a good size, with a fair amount of shelf space. The bed was very comfortable, although the pillows were a little firm for my liking (but I admit to being quite picky about that!). The room had tea and coffee making facilities and cookies. There was also a DVD player for the TV, and you could borrow DVDs from reception. The room had a safe, and free WiFi.

Breakfast was included in my room rate, and was wonderful - plenty of choice of hot and cold food, including some interesting dishes.

There is free parking at the back of the hotel though there are not many spaces. Street parking is free at all times, but gets very busy during the day as commuters park there. I returned to the hotel around midnight and parked right outside the front door. The hotel is on a quiet residential street, but there are shops and places to eat on the main road a short distance away.

The whole place had a clean, welcoming feel to it, and I'm looking forward to going back there.

Rooms were clean and freshly decorated with comfortable beds. Lots of hot water with a powerful shower.
Staff at reception were helpful and friendly
Breakfast was good - made and served to order. No standing in line to make your own toast. White linen tablecloths were an added bonus. Waiting staff very attentive.
About 15 minute walk from city centre - but we ate locally in the evening. Good choice of restaurants nearby
Would have no problem recommending this hotel

We stayed here three nights a few weeks ago and were very happy with our choice! The rooms are very modern and updated in decor, and overall a very pleasant, clean, and comfortable building. Both waiters in the dining room were very friendly (and breakfast was always delicious!) and every employee we encountered at the front desk was pleasant and very helpful. One night we tried to watch a movie from the nice dvd library they have there, and the dvd player wasn't working. We mentioned it to the girl at the front desk on our way out the next morning and it was replaced by the time we arrived back that night. Also, a snow storm blew in overnight the day before we planned to leave, so I asked the front desk if they knew whether or not the trains were being delayed or canceled. She looked it up and said everything looked on schedule. When we came down a few hours later to check out, she said she'd been watching the weather and it looked like all the trains were still ok to travel, and also called us a taxi upon checking out. I thought this was very considerate and thoughtful! The actual street that the hotel is located on is a little sketchy, but other than that, the location is also good. About 20 minutes to walk to the city hall center of town, but Botanic Ave, which is right around the corner, has many good restaurants. We especially enjoyed Speranza, an Italian food restaurant 10 minutes or less away which had very good food! Highly recommend Tara Lodge!

Room Tip: As suggested by some previous reviewers, I requested a quiet room near the top or back of the buildi...
