“An excellent family run hotel with friendly & efficient staff”
Reviewed July 30, 2013 via mobile

My partner & myself stayed at Malone lodge hotel on Saturday night (27th July) We checked in at 2pm & as our room wasn't quite ready we were offered tea & coffee by the receptionist. Five minutes later our room was ready & another member of staff offered to take our bags to our room while we finished our tea.
The room was amazing, very spacious & clean & the decor was beautiful. There were beautiful pictures of the main attraction in Belfast in black & white which I just loved.
We unpacked & left to go on a tour of crumlin road gaol which was great.
On our return we had a shower & got ready for dinner in the hotels knife & fork restaurant again the setting was beautiful staff were friendly & very attentive. Our drinks order was taken, we ordered a bottle of pinot gracio wine & some water. We were offered to taste the wine when it was brought to our table & i usually do to test the temperature, it was perfect ! We both ordered the squid for starters & it was the best I have tasted in a long time. My partner had the steak which was cooked exactly to his liking served with chips & peppered sauce & I had the chicken dish which was served with mash & veg.
We decided to have the trio of dessert to share and oh my God did my mouth water, I could have eaten it all myself. My partner had an Irish coffee & judging by the sound he made when first tasting it, he enjoyed it. Dinner was perfect
On Saturday night we went out to see Mack Fleetwood a tribute band to the famous Fleetwood Mack a definite must see again band. After a long day a hot shower was well deserved & it was heaven to relax in such a comfortable bed even the temperature of the room was perfect. Another full day was planned for Sunday so it was up early and down to breakfast. Again the knife & fork restaurant was set out perfectly & we were greeted by staff & brought to out table right away. Staff explained how breakfast worked, took our order for tea & coffee & full Irish breakfast for my partner & poached eggs for myself. We then went to help ourselves to cereal & freshly cut fruits. Our cooked breakfasts arrived after staff had cleared away our cereal bowls & wiped the table Breakfast was beautiful the staff were very attentive, friendly & forgot nothing, even the offer of brown sauce.
Our stay at Malone lodge was perfect in every way. We honestly could fault nothing.
On checking out my partner asked was the same room available for St Valentines night 2014 & it was so that's us booked in again but we will definitely be back to the knife & fork restaurant soon.
And just to let you all in to a little secret our wedding will also be in Malone lodge hotel but keep that quiet as we have to tell our families first :-)

Thanks to everyone at Malone lodge for a fantastic stay see you all again very soon

Over in Belfast to visit my mother who was seriously ill in a Belfast hospital my two aunts and my father decided to look at self catering apartments in the area rather than stay in the nice hotel we were already in as we didn't know how long we would be there. After visiting and being impressed by the standard of the apartment and equally the housekeeper who showed us around the Malone Lodge Apartments we decided to up sticks and move. Later that evening when we checked in we discovered that we were in alternative apartments up the road which on our first arrival the main front communal door lock didn't. After letting the reception know this they did nothing until some time later we asked again only to be told that we were using the key incorrectly. The door lock was obviously broken and didn't work but they were trying to disguise this by saying we were not operating the door properly. Next the so called 5 star apartment that we had booked was smaller than what we needed and wasn't up to the standard of the apartments we had visited earlier in the day. So to help out we were offered another apartment upstairs which we accepted and that was to the same poor non 5 star standard as the other apartment. The bins weren't emptied and the place needed cleaned. After bringing it to the attention of the reception and to cut a long story short we found out that we were in the wrong apartment upstairs. But how could the key open the door to the wrong apartment? It turned out that the key for the upstairs apartment also opened the adjacent door of the other apartment upstairs much to our disbelieve and the horror of my two aunts who were going to sleep in that apartment. So with the lack of security on the front door and the fact the same key opened different doors my aunts were not going to sleep in that apartment and had lost confidence and trust in the Malone Lodge. As it was too late to do anything about it we all had to stay in the one apartment. Needless to say the next day we went back to the nice hotel around the corner (The Wellington Park) where we felt safe and looked after and stayed there for another 2 weeks. Don't be fooled by the nicely done up reception and bar and make sure you know what apartments you getting as some are definitely not 5 Star as claimed.

Room Tip: Make sure you know what apartment building you are in as they are not all to 5 Star

I recently stayed here while attending the Bruce Springsteen concert. I picked this hotel as it was convenient for both the Kings Hall and the city centre. The hotel is in a lovely area and was very quiet at night. The room was clean and spacious and the bathroom was also a decent size. The bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic. There was an excellent choice of cereals & fruit and the cooked breakfast menu was probably the best I've ever seen. I highly recommend the French toast. We also had one evening meal in the hotel restaurant. Again the food was excellent. The staff were all so friendly & helpful - I couldn't praise them highly enough! They really made our stay extra enjoyable. I can't wait to return.

Stayed night for Springsteen concert, great location for Kings Hall. Our room not ready when we checked in but immediately offered pot of coffee, and helpfulness of staff was great. Cleanliness struck me immediately and has definitely improved since I stayed there 4 years ago. Twin room good, spacious, quiet, Could not fault if I tried, Bar even though busy was relaxing and again very efficent friendly barman & night porter. Breakfast was superb, local fresh ingredients and relaxed atmosphere, again staff were so helpful without being over the top. Would definitely stay again and no hesitation in recommending. Free secure car park at back.

Room Tip: Great location for Lisburn Road/Kings Hall, Great little shops & restaurants on Lisburn Rd

Despite the mother of all cock ups with our booking we had a nice mini break staying at the Malone Lodge apartments. (I suspect some over booking due to the Bruce Springsteen gig on 20 July - which meant that instead of the two bedroom apartment we had booked six months previously our party had to cosy up in a one bedroom apartment for a night).

On the downside the apartments at Malone Lodge are a bit "tired" and the decor is nearing its sell by date. The view from the bedrooms of apartment number three left a lot to be desired and there is plenty of noise in the morning due to banging doors in the other apartments (a problem easily solved with a bit of thought and simple DIY - other than that it was really quite quiet).

On the upside there is plenty of space with decent sized bedrooms and lots of seating in the comfy living room. The kitchen area has all the basics you need to a cook a meal and is reasonably equipped. The bathroom has a basic but decent shower and generally everything is clean and tidy. Possibly the best thing going for the Malone Lodge are the staff who lovely and always helpful (even when giving you some very bad news).

The hotel itself is a couple of buildings down the road from the apartments and has an ok bar should you need a late night nightcap. As part of the compensation for our booking cock up we had a free breakfast in the hotel which was pretty good - the tasty sausage and very nice soda bread were a high point of the "full Irish" which will set you back £12.

In terms of location we liked the Malone Lodge a lot - it's a 20 or so minute walk into town and you get to stroll through the lovely botanical gardens. Worth noting that this is still a predominately student area of town - pleasant but not swanky.

If you get a good price and don't mind being a bit out of town this is a good budget Belfast travel option.

Highly recommended for room size, free parking and pleasant location, very near Queen's University and the Ulster Museum. Some rooms are in the main hotel building; others (like ours, Room 609) are across the street and are considered an upgrade. They called it an executive suite, though it was one very large, clean, modern room and large bathroom. We had to wait 5-10 minutes to get someone to show us to the room, but otherwise it was not inconvenient to cross the street for the complimentary breakfast, which was plentiful and good, and to reach the parking lot behind the hotel (down an unmarked alley). Staff was polite and helpful and provided printouts of Google Maps directions several times. It's a fairly quiet residential street with large old multistory homes, many being renovated. The city center is probably about a 20-minute walk, relatively close but not necessarily something you'd want to do repeatedly. Plenty of restaurants nearby (Beatrice Kennedy, Maggie May's, Barking Dog), and bars (Botanic Inn, Olde Eglantine Inn). Toiletries provided; nice TV; in-room safe; large wardrobe; reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Room 609, across the street from the main part of the hotel, is large and comfortable.

Pros: Massive rooms and massive living and large kitchen. ideal for large gatherings. provided milk and cereals for settling in. about 20 mins walk to city centre and 5 mins to Ulster museum/queen's university.

Cons: converted flats were used as apartments so some obvious wear and tear. Kitchen was slightly dated and some leaky taps but otherwise a perfectly functional apartment. Slightly more expensive than comparable apartments in the vicinity

I would stay here again
