“Thank You Helen”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

I had booked afternoon tea for my sister's hen party at the Europa hotel yesterday I cannot thank Helen enough for the great day, everything about our afternoon was special from organising a private area in the Piano Bar to the food, service and best of all her attention to every detail in making this a special afternoon. I would highly recommend this hotel and it's staff to anyone planning afternoon tea in Belfast.

As part of a Brendan tour vacation, we really enjoyed our stay at the Europa in Belfast. It is a lovely, art deco inspired hotel. The reception was warm and welcoming, rooms very comfortable and meals were also very good. The location is excellent, as you are really in the heart of the city. Would definitely come back.....would love to see wi-fi included in our stay. Thank you for your wonderful Irish welcome.

The Europa has earned a terrfic reputation over the years by striving to provide an excellent service during the turbulent times of the Troubles.
Ironically in more peaceful times, the area in which the hotel is situated has become more dilapidated and run down. The current vista fom the hotel is two over-rated pubs, a Bookies and a Homeless Advice Centre complete with agressive street drinkers.
The hotel reminds me of a house proud homeowner who watches aghast through the net curtains as the neighbourhood goes downhill as all the cool people move on (in this case to the trendy and atmospheric Cathedral Quarter where there is a thriving nightlife scene.)
Clearly the Europa can't do much about the neighbours but what of the hotel itself?
I stayed here a couple of days ago and first impressions weren't good judging by the dusty shelves in the bathroom, a tempremental telly and the used room service plates left on the hallway carpet by another guest, which remained in place for the entire 24 hours that I was there.
The rooms were adequate but WI-Fi at 6 quid in an hour was way too pricey as was an average enough breakfast at £16 per person, no less!
Also how the hotel has managed to avoid installing spa and leisure facilities over the years is mystifying? Directing guests perusing the welcome brochure to tuck their towels under their arms and head off to the local council leisure facilities is not good enough for a hotel which aspires to be the best in the city.
The piano bar is exorbitantly priced and the missing pianist is still AWOL.
Redeeming factors however were the friendly door staff and the manager of the first floor bar but there was no sign of the friendly front of house staff that greeted and reassured visitors in the bad times.
As a long -time patron of the Europa, I am sad that the current custodians of this grand old hotel have allowed standards to slip whilst putting the arm in on prices-Eu really need to get back to basics and return to the values that carried the Europa through the last few decades!

We stayed here July 2012. Checked in - no car park anymore, but valet parking for an extra £16! Wanted wi-fi but that's extra as well and pricey with it. Very disappointing and just greedy 'coz this costs the hotel virtually nothing to provide. This alone would make me go elsewhere next time.
Breakfast the first morning was very good indeed, second morning it was quite poor. Drinks prices in piano bar with no pianist were outrageous, coupled with very poor service, but two good pubs directly across the road.
All in all I vote this hotel very AVERAGE.

Room Tip: Negotiate hard for a deal including car-parking, breakfast and wifi

Stayed here for 2 nights in August on a special dinner bed and breakfast package. Lovely rooms, excellent restaurant and so central for everything in the city. The really amazing thing was the value for money; I would highly recommend

The Europa Hotel is nice, it is a good hotel in a very good location but there were 2 things that detracted from our stay. Firstly you have to pay for the WiFi. In a budget hotel this would be Ok'ish but in a hotel that charges as much as The Europa I just don't get it. The fees were fairly substantial as well. Secondly the breakfast was made with the best of ingredients and produce but it was only warm. The hotel has a lot going for it, including very friendly efficient staff, great showers, sizeable rooms etc. but I really think charging for WiFi access is on a par with presenting the guests with a bill for tap water.

Was recently in the Europa for afternoon tea.Had a great time- food was excellent, as was surroundings and service. We were very impressed with Helen who went out of her way to assist us. When she heard we were celebrating a special birthday nothing was too much trouble for her. She made our afternoon perfect.Lovely girl- a gem. Will definitely be back to try cocktails next time.!
