“Worth a visit”

Berts serves excellent good in a lively but relaxed environment with attentive service. This place is not cheap but you're guaranteed great food and great atmosphere.

“Good food and good service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2013

Went for Christmas Lunch - Had to ask for set menu as ala carte was more expensive; had already been told that the set menu was the only one available. Good starter, Great main and very stodgy but good cake sweet. Good wine and adequate Irish coffee. Ordered a Henricks Gin but they served it with lime - strange that in rest of Merchant they would have served it with the correct cucumber. Overall just good - much better in Grill room but of course a little cheaper in Barts. To sum um good but not great.

“Great JAZZ band”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2013

The food was OK as it was paid for by friends I have no idea if it was value for money. But the staff were friendly and looked after us well as we were a large party. The Jazz band were great and the singer had a fabulous voice. Would certainly return just to hear her.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2013 via mobile

Dined at Bert's bar this weekend and was very disappointed by the food. The quality of the food was terrible, food also arrived lukewarm. Waitresses were pleasant and attentive.
Band were fantastic and singer had an amazing voice. We were sitting near the band and did find it difficult to hear each other as we chatted through dinner. All in all I would not return.

“Great music, limited and overpriced menu”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2013 via mobile

If you are after a nice restaurant for a great dinner experience this is the wrong place. There are only 3 or 4 options of starters, mains and desserts. The wine list is also limited(with good options thought).
However if you are not after a great meal experience but some (overpriced) food while listening to very good band playing live jazz, you found it, there no reason to look further. The ambience, the decoration and the music sets the perfect climate, specially if you are going with a partner. Be prepared for the bill as it comes higher than a better "food only" restaurant.
If you really enjoy Jazz I suggest to book a table on the second service (for an extra £10 per person) and keep the table whilst you enjoy the live music to the last tune, around midnight.
Although the service is quite poor for the price paid the staff is very helpful and do their best to accommodate your request. (Not holding the food while a bottle of red wine chill for 10 minutes because the kitchen is closing is not acceptable while there are tables next to you who even ordered their food yet).
Is worth for the music and lack of similar places in the city.
