“wonderful food , homely atmosphere, great service”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

This has to be the best chinese restaurant in northern ireland. The food is wonderful, fresh and plentyful. Su ling is a super host, looks after all her customers, knows most of them by name. It is no wonder customers return again and again. For this standard of food and service one would expect to pay high prices but macau is very reasonable..great value for money.
I love this gem on the ormeau road and will be telling everyone about it.
Thanks for a lovely set up

“totally yummy”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

Introduced to this hidden gem by my sister and its now a firm favourite. Very reasonably priced as four starters and four mains and extra sides came in at under £20 a head and even better still it's a BOY with nominal corkage. It's a little cramped and a little basic but clean. The main draw of this place is the food and is fabulous for vegetarians........the salted chilli aubergine is to die for :) would advise booking in advance as it gets very busy.

“Average”
Reviewed May 26, 2013 via mobile

Had been meaning to go here for ages after hearing great reviews, but pretty disappointing! Went mid week and we were the only table there. Inside look clean enough but pretty dated. Food was fine and portions were decent sized but just lacking any wow factor at all. Will save my money and get a take out from somewhere else next time!

Reviewed May 11, 2013 via mobile

Organised a mummy's night out for 15 to have 19 turn up, thanks to the excellent staff here this sis not phase them and they squeezed us in and helped to organise the food which there was so much of. Live the BYO idea of this place and the food is excellent. No rush to get us out either so great night had by all, thanks, we'll def be back.

“Not sure what all the fuss is about.....”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Heard about Macau for the first time recently, not sure how I have never noticed it before. Heard from a few different people that it's the best chinese in Belfast so had to try it out. Went on a Sunday night & it was reasonably busy. Restauarnt decor is antic to say the least, felt like I was sitting in someones living room!

Had spring rolls to start and was presented with at least 10 tiny spring rolls, I've tasted better from the freezer in Iceland. Played it safe for the main with chicken & cashew nuts, tasted fine but nothing special. Rice is served in a large bowl which they dish out for you & put on another table. Staff attentive at topping up the rice. Complimetary fruit salad given at the end was a nice touch.

While I don't have any specific complaints, I wasn't overly impressed by the food. Food was bland & served hap hazardly. Decor was laughable & tables cramped. Staff were very good but I much prefer Gaze which is 5 mins up the road.
