We found the Hilton to be ideally located in a quite area of Belfast, the staff were friendly and facilities excellent, our room was very clean, with great views over the Lagan, well worth the visit. The breakfast cost was a little high but go to the Market across the road for plenty of other choices.

Just on the edge of the city centre, with a car park next door (£18 per 24 hours). Very comfortable, modern hotel with friendly staff and views out over the river, the Waterside Hall and old Harland & Wolff shipyard. The executive lounge is a great little surprise for evening drinks and nibbles and for a quiet breakfast with the news. Didn't try the restaurant, but can recommend Ox, which is 5 minutes' walk away.

This is a very nice hotel with a very professional and helpful staff. Despite what others may say the breakfast is very good and offers a choice of continental, irish, english or just plain Ah-mer-can. Eggs cooked to order, if you ask. The best thing about this hotel; however, is that it is quiet. There was a wedding reception going on downstairs and the bar was busy as it would be on a Friday night, yet it the room was quite. The other nice thing is the HIVAC just works. It's not fiddly, nor was it noisy. The curtains even block out the light, which is essential on a layover. This hotel is clean, modern and extremely well located just a couple of blocks from Victoria Square and the main shopping district. It is also a walkable distance to the Titanic museum (a must see while in Belfast).

Five star staff, let down by a canteen-standard breakfast. The food was dry and tasteless and the juice straight from the cartoon, not the fruit. It's a shame, as everything else was ok, although the bar prices were a bit steep. More of an Ulster Flop that an Ulster Fry.

A three night visit at this hotel was both relaxing and enjoyable. The staff were very helpful. Good executive lounge and meals excellent. Bed a bit hard for me but bathroom brilliant. Fabulous view from corner room. Huge bath and lots of bubbles. Not too far from tourist experiences i.e. Titanic and Crumlin Road Jail. Found the murals very interesting, painted all round the city, telling the story of Belfast's history.

I booked a two night stay in your hotel for me and my girlfriend several months ago via Expedia.ie.

(1) Overcharging attempts:
We arrived approx 8.30pm on Friday 21st March for a romantic city break away. At the check in desk we were greeted by your Duty Manager, who proceeded to check us into our room. He confirmed at the desk that we had fully paid and that we didn't have breakfast included and asked us to re-confirm to which we agreed.
He also advised at this stage that he would need to take a credit card for a £50 deposit per night to cover any spending/charges to the room – he advised that our card would not be debited unless we had charges as this was only a deposit.

However roll on two days later, to our check out day Sunday 23rd March, only to find an envelope shoved through our room door with the words “non-stop check out” on the front.

In this envelope addressed to my partner, was a bill of over £240 being sought by the hotel.

We both received a terrible shock at receiving this letter first thing in the morning, especially as your very own Duty Manager had only confirmed at our check in two days earlier that we had already pre-paid as stated above.

The only items we should have been charged for were £60.10 from your Cables Bar/Restaurant as we had dinner and some drinks there on the Friday evening and charged these to our room.

The remaining £180 bill was a duplication, made up of our two nights stay and a mini bar charge of £5.

With outrage, my partner felt that we needed to clear this matter up straight away so we made our way to the reception to make the complaint and spoke with a dark haired woman (unfortunately he did not receive her name). This receptionist checked her computer systems and advised that she was sorry and that this was their fault as it was clear from her computer that we had already pre-paid for the room.

She also advised that sometimes the mini bar charges people even if you only shake the fridge or open the door and again she apologised for this charge as she advised this happens regularly at your hotel.

Now I’m no genius but surely there must be something wrong with the mini bar system if your hotel receives this many complaints about over charging????

The receptionist apologised and then deleted the mini bar charge and the room charge from the bill and printed a new bill for the £60.10 that we owed to which i paid for by my credit card.

This kind of overcharging is completely unsatisfactory and totally unnecessary if the staff were trained properly to read your computer systems.

(2) Car Parking:
Upon check in on Friday i asked about the car parking (in the Hilton Car Park – as per the picture attached) and the Duty Manager advised us both that upon check out he would give us a “ticket for the parking” in his own words.

With this the Duty Manager gave us our room key cards and we made our way to the elevators. Both my partner and I left the lobby with the understanding that the car parking was free for hotel guests only to find out upon check out that we had to pay for the car parking and that guests only received a mere 20% (approx) discount of the full price of £50 for the car parking.
As stated above, neither of us were made aware of this additional cost to our stay at check in and it is absolutely disgraceful that this was not made clear to us. It was the car park attendant who informed us that we had to pay out a further £36 cost in total to have the car released from the car park as she tried to explain that the car park was a separate company (Lanyon Car Park) and only used the Hilton as an advertisement outside. If this is the case and it does belong to Lanyon Car Park then why isn’t their logo also above the entrance.

This is a complete mis-representation of what you may call “advertising” as I believe you are being very sneaky and manipulative by letting people assume the car park belongs to the Hilton hotel seeing as it is adjoined to the building or else why have the Hilton name above the car park sign.

(3)Cables Bar/Restaurant
The bar experience was also very poor and inadequate. On Friday evening we both sat down at a table near the entrance, the bar was quite empty at this stage and a young barman came over to take our order. When he returned he had brought the wrong drinks with him to which he apologised and corrected his mistake. We also had to advise this young bar man to clear away the empty glasses that were left by others at the table we were sitting at.
We also noticed there was a Formal taking place upstairs and that some of the young teenagers who strayed away into your Cables Bar were only asked ID and refused by the female bartender. However both the bar manager and the young bar tender continued to serve the youngsters all night even though it was very clear that they were not over 18 having previously been refused.

(4)Room :
(Please see the pictures ) it can clearly be seen that the room is not cleaned to the professional standards of which 5 Stars represents. We could barely see out of the room windows with the amount of dirt on the outside and inside of the windows. Also there was a black scum in the grooves of the tiles in the bathroom which a bit of Cif cream and some elbow grease would kindly resolve.
Also the duvet was not large enough to cover the double bed and this could easily be seen from the door before we entered the room. The duvet cover also had random holes in it which I assume are used by the accommodation staff but these should be allowed to be buttoned up or placed at the bottom of the bed and not the top of the bed.
Overall, our stay at your hotel was inadequate and highly disappointing and lacked the professional service that is expected from 5 Star accreditation.

All we received from the receptionist and the Duty Manager upon my notification of these complaints to them yesterday was a dry apology for their inaccuracy and the feeling that they wanted me to leave as soon as possible.

There was no apology in regards to the fact that our weekend stay was nothing but one stress after another, which included poor table service, inaccurate administration at reception and a less than averagely clean room and overall unprofessional management and staff.

The hotel maybe trading as a 5 Star establishment but it is far from meeting these standards. At best, we would rate your hotel as a 3 Star.
