The Shankill Road is filled with history about the Troubles. If your wanting to find out more about that, violence, attacks, and paramilitary groups of Northern Ireland while also seeing some murals, peace-walls and Loyalism then the Shankill Road is thee place to visit.

However I done the Red City Sightseeing Tour and really we seen or heard petty much nothing. Drove up the Shankill Road got no-time at all to take pictures and really got very little information.

I would recommend a taxi/bus tour that actually stops on the Shankill or drives into some of the housing estates such as the Lower Shankill and explains in more detail what happened in the area. You will get so much more from that compared to the average Red Bus Tours.

Looks to be an area that is similar to most others in the UK, working-class, kinda run-down and untidy in places nothing special apart from the fact that the people are very much united in their Loyalism/Protestantism/Britishness and have all had to experience terrible conflict of which almost everyone was affected.

Have to admire the Loyalist people of Belfast indeed wider Northern Ireland for their Loyalty to the United Kingdom, many elsewhere in Britain should take notice !

Shankill Road was looking particularly festive early this July, gaily decorated with Union Jacks and posters in honour of both the Queen's Jubilee and the annual Twelfth celebrations. A more sombre note was struck by the many wall murals - reminders of all-too-recent history. Definitely worth a stroll.
