“Weddins', Wee'ins and Wakes”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

We went to see this show and altho' we weren't used to the Irish accents and missed a few of the initial jokes it didn't take us long to tune in. We loved the show and in particular the wonderful singing.
Great theatre. Lovely friendly people sitting beside us and overall a really good night.

Thanks so much for attending Weddins', Wee'ins and Wakes with us, and we're glad you enjoyed the performance. Indeed, the show is performed and centred around a very local dialect and idiom, we hope it added to the charm, and perhaps even showcased just a slice of the sense of humour found here!

We were very proud to help Marie Jones revive the production, and the show was very well attended and received. We hope that we'll see you again next time you visit Northern Ireland.

“Excellent Theatrical Venue”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

The Lyric Theatre, in it's new form, is one of the best places to spend an evening in Belfast. The new theatre was eagerly awaited by many people and did not disappoint. Having attended several major performances involving many local stars, not least Kenneth Branagh, as well as many visiting artists, I would thoroughly recommend it. Parking is a problem, probably best to get a cab to the theatre if you are staying in the centre of town, although a walk through the University district on the way can also be enjoyable. Tickets can be purchased in advance through the theatres online service. Seats are comfortable and the theatre and smaller performance spaces are well designed. There is also a small bar and café while you are waiting for the performance.

Thank you for your kind comments. We're very proud of the new facility and the work we put on here.

In reference to the car parking, unfortunately we were not able to incorporate our own specifically designated parking as part of the theatre's redesign. However, we recommend that customers use the free public car park at the Stranmillis roundabout, or the parking spaces along the Stranmillis embankment, both of which are just a few short minutes walk away from the main entrance to the theatre. For disabled badge holders, we have spaces specifically designated in front of the main doors.

Thanks once again for your comments

“Familiar old friend”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

The Lyric was a refuge for many people needing a night out during the troubles. It was a cramped little auditorium and even smaller bar space but it had a unique atmosphere, with no curtain and the seats running down to the stage, making it an intimate performance space. The refurbishment has kept the best of the old and made the main theatre bigger and added alternative performance spaces, but best of all a large bar and dining area with windows overlooking the Lagan and parking onstreet or up near Stranmillis College. There is a homely atmosphere to just have a coffee or a drink even if you are not attending a performance. The theatre still gives local writers and actors their opportunity to perform as well as bringing in the best of the rest. As a venue it is hard to beat.

Thanks so much for your kind words about the venue.

We are very lucky that the Lyric and its history means so much to so many people, and to that end I know that the architectural firm who designed the new facility, O' Donnell + Tuomey were very keen for the design to retain the spirit of the old premises. It's great to hear positive comments in this regard, and also about the new and improved reception spaces that the new design offers us.

We are very proud of the new Lyric and hope to see you here again soon!

“New and Improved.”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

The Lyric has had a rebuild recently, and is now a lovely spot, with fine views over the river Lagan. It has a spacious bar and foyer too, and the auditorium is refurbished, with fine acoustics and ventilation on what was a muggy evening.

Parking is still in sidestreets, though - the theatre is in a residential area.

This theatre enhances one's enjoyment of whatever you're watching, unlike some of the run-down old places in London's west end. It's a lot cheaper too.

Thank you for your lovely review of your recent visit to the theatre. Your comment about the how the theatre "enhances" your enjoyment of what you're watching is particulalry good to read. We agree. It has always been our objective to create a great experience throughout the theatre, not just on stage.

We note your comment about the parking. You're correct saying that we are located in a residential area but we're fortunate to have free parking outside the theatre along the Stranmillis Embankment. There's more free parking about 200m away in the car park at the foot of Stranmillis Road.

We hope you'll return soon to see another show and encourage you to avail of the parking in those areas. Our box office team will be happy to give you further guidance on parking when you are booking or alternatively we have a customer service policy on the download section of our website with further information.

Thanks again for taking the time to submit your review. We really appreciate the feedback.

“great place for productions”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

I saw a variety of productions at the Lyric theater. Beautiful building, a lovely spot to have a drink before the show though quite pricey and the theater space is excellent. A plus for Belfast.

Thank you for you kind review.

We are delighted you enjoyed your vist and were impressed by our wonderful new theatre. As you can imagine, we're very proud of it.

We're sorry you felt the bar prices were pricey. We regularly review our prices and aim to benchmark oursleves against other local bars and restaurants and, because we are a charity, we re-invest any profits made on our bar and kiosk back into theatre and our work with young people.

We also occasionally run special offers in the bar and some of our wines are heavily discounted against the recommended retail price.

Thanks again for your review and feedback and we hope you will return to the theatre again in the near future.
