We went to the John Hewitt for a few drinks before heading out into town on a weekend away in Belfast. We didn't eat here nor would we want to as on Saturday night it was busy with a small band playing live music. There is a really good selection of local Ulster real-ale from Hilden on draught plus a load of other ales including Erdinger. Would definitely recommend for a lively few drinks.

Great spot for lunch, first time visitors, quick service, friendly staff, food spot on (Battered Fish and Chips). Quite busy, but a lovely atmosphere and genuine old Irish pub with a nice pint of Guiness. Perfect really!!

If you want a good pint and hear some good Irish music this is the place to visit. Open 6 nights a week they have a band and many musician show up and jam which can make up a big band, of fiddles, guitars, accordians, fluts etc. . . adult pub, not a place for children

Apparently, this place is owned by a Trade Union. That aside, it is an old fashioned place, clean and light, with plenty of natural light through the floor to ceiling windows.
Unusually, the windows are completely transparent, so you see out and others see in.
Comfortable, easy atmosphere, not trying to be cool, trendy or hip. The place, while it feels like a local, frequented by Belfasters, does not alienate the visitor.
Great Guinness.
We've been a couple of times, but just for a drink. We notice awards for food and service and an interesting, modern menu, though

real food perfectly prepared in an authentic pub setting. Always a good fish selection. No pretensions here.
