We went here with friends after the St Patrick's Day parade. Haven't been to the market before and certainly didn't expect there to be a superb wee gem of a restaurant there! After wandering around and really absorbing the atmosphere of the Sunday variation of the market, I believe it is different on other days, we decided to try the Bar & Grill. Best decision in a long time!

The decor and ambience were lovely and to be honest they were so nice I wondered if we would have to break into the plastic when the bill came! We were asked if we would like to dine inside or on the messanine, we chose this so we could enjoy people watching.

The menu, though not massive, was interesting, and states that they use the produce from teh market which I thought was a lovely touch. I ordered mussels in Magners cider with bacon and cream - to die for! My other half had the seafood chowder, which was also very special. Others in our party had the Ulster Fry, chicken linguine and our 9 year old ordered the burger. All of us where delighted with our portions sizes and choices.

The staff were friendly and professional, just the right mix of charm and humour and knowledgeable about the food. Service was prompt and efficient. The prices were surprising reasonable and no, we didn't need the plastic! Just another plus point!

I have been telling all my friends to make a point of trying this place as I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

The market too was impressive and I will be back with an appetite and more friends to enjoy a lazy Sunday there.

Visited on a Saturday night and the place was less than half full. There was no atmosphere. Food was basic and house wine was terrible. They closed the kitchen at 10 and waitress was running around in her socks! Feels like the place is winding down. Won't be returning.

Hi,

Really sorry you did not have a good experience with us. I can assure you we are working really hard to ensure our long standing standards are maintained and that your experience was a one off blip.

We have been getting some great feedback recently on our food and wine, hopefully your poor experience is just an isolated one.

I am sorry to hear you wont be returning, I do hope you change your mind. We have a new menu and wine list due in the next month,

Perhaps you could return then when they will hopefully be to your satisfaction.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback

We had purchased a Treat ticket offer for this restaurant 2 main courses and large glass of wine for 2. My husband & I had eaten here before but only at lunch. Dinner was fantastic we both opted for 10oz sirloin steaks both great cuts and quality cooked to perfection. The sauces which accompanied the steaks were not required as the steaks were so succulent. The only criticism was that the chips were not that great. Service was good and atmosphere of resturant was good. Compliments were given to the chef. We will return.

Hi,

Thanks for leaving us such a nice review.

I am very sorry the chips were not as good as you had hoped. I have passed this feedback onto the chef James, he will look into the error and improve where possible on the ingredients or cooking methods to get them better.

I am glad you enjoyed the steaks and sauces though.

We look forward to your return, let us know how you find the chips!

This restaurant is set amid the famous St. Georges Market making it an experience on several levels. But, lets start at the beginning....I was there with a friend who was enjoying her first visit to my home town Belfast. We arrived without reservations and were warmly welcomed and asked if we had preference for inside our outside dining.

The server explained the menu which indicated a great choice of locally sourced produce and chatted with us about the restaurant and the famous market below.

The food was tasty, well cooked, well presented and great value for money. There is a great range of dishes on the menu and the server knew the ins and outs of all of them, or at least the ones we asked about.

Due to the market downstairs, this place was really buzzing with atmosphere. You can look down and watch the discerning shopper negotiating for the best cut of meat or fish with the vendors and inhale the amazingly vast array of smells and flavours emanating from the various food stands around the market.

The market is noisy, live music abounds, which is why we chose to eat inside, but a lot of people will soak up that feature up with aplomb.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday to Sunday, additionally, they have a theatre menu which is available up to 7 p.m. most evenings.
