Great and varied entertainment with relaxed surroundings.the green room is a mixture of sofas and tables with a quiet bar/cafe type restaurant,on various days/evenings the entertainment ranges from poetry to comedy to film nights to easy music.there is nowhere else like it in Belfast. But check entertainment guide before visiting

Looking forward to a return visit to support the Black Box and see the amazing Hat Fitz and local girl Cara. 10TH Aug 2012.
Brilliant venue in the centre of Belfast, seen many acts from traditional African from Mali to DJ sets by some of the local lads.
Keep your eye on their website to see whats coming up.

“Vibrant arts venue in the heart of the city”
Reviewed May 15, 2012

The Black Box is a great independent arts venue in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter comprising of two main spaces - the cafe bar and a larger venue well suited to live music, comedy and drama alike.

The cafe bar has a really cool and relaxed vibe to it with lots of art work on the walls and regular live music sessions. There is always a great buzz about the place and the patrons are generally friendly - it's the type of venue folk come to to enjoy themselves and you can tell they are happy to be there!

I think on a Sunday night there is a flamenco performance as well and they regularly run a pizza and pint offer but I'm not sure at what point in the week that is. The main venue is great and the last gig I went to there was Hazel O'Connor as part of the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival. It is an intimate venue with round tables dotted about the space creating a very social atmosphere. The sound quality is great and there is always plenty going on. The bar offers a good selection of beers, wines and spirits and if you are driving I can recommend the alcohol free Erdinger! Prices are reasonable and staff are friendly.

If you become a member they send you programmes in the post as well as special offers and sometimes free tickets which is great. We recently got free tickets to see Irish comedian Colm O'Regan and were welcomed on arrival with a glass of fizz which was a nice surprise! The venue relies on the support of the public and in turn hosts a lot of workshops to help the local arts scene grow and thrive.

If you are only in Belfast for a weekend check out their website for what's on. I know they host regular swing dancing nights as well so if you fancy giving something a bit different a go then the Black Box is the place for you.
