“Hidden gem for Thai food”
Reviewed October 23, 2012 via mobile

Have visited the Golden Elephant several times and it is always the same, excellent. Food, service and price are all great. The mixed starter, red duck curry and monk fish are my favourites. Drinks list is not extensive but has everything you want. All staff are very friendly. Have not been in a while so must go back soon.

“Superb value for money & excellent quality”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

Went here for a Friday lunch with work colleagues and their £5 2-course, £6 3-course lunch specials are excellent value for money. With around a dozen things on the menu to choose from you're not restricted for choice like some other lunch menus. The food quality and standard of service is very good with the restaurant itself spacious, tasteful and authentic inside. Definitely a new addition to our lunch list as we'll all be back for sure.

“Too much on the menu!”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

The reastaurant is small, staff quite friendly except for 1 lady who was quite sharp. We ordered 2 starters which were quite different, however when they came out they both resembled deep fried spam! No taste, no seasoning and it was obvious that if you ordered anything deep fried this is what you got.
Main meal was ok, again lacked flavour. We had no sooner finished our horrible starter when the plates were wisked away and our main was plonked in front of us. I was ready to say about the starters but wasnt given the chance, or asked if I had enjoyed it.
There is too much on the menu, with the result that many of the dishes are simply the same when they arrive.
Will not be in a hurry back.

“Unauthentic with cheap ingredients, and a far flung from fresh”
Reviewed June 15, 2012

If you've ever been to Thailand and had the fresh sweet spicy salty flavours
that are in abundance everywhere in the land of smiles, then please please steer clear of this establishment. It's the anti-thesis of Thai cuisine, its' MSG and cheap cut meat left me sick, literally sick.

If you haven't been to Thailand and want to experience the food, I haven't come across anywhere in Belfast that offers this. But there is a great Asian supermarket where you can buy most of the ingredients to make Thai food at home. Out of respect for a truly unique cuisine please give this place a very wide berth.

“Fantastic”
Reviewed April 11, 2012

After searching the internet looking for a thai restaurant we had not tried we decided on the Golden Elephant. Our table was waiting for us when we arrived on a busy saturday night. Staff were extremely welcoming. We ordered wine, 2 starters and two main courses plus we received complimentary prawn crackers when perusing the menu. Starter were hot and spicy 1 platter plate and 1 salad (Could not believe how hot a salad could be) brilliant! Main courses were beef fillet in oyster sauce which was lovely could actually believe it was fillet steak as usually I have my doubts in some restaurants. Star of the night was seabass in a delicious broth with chilli, garlic and chinese cabbage. It was served on a beautiful heated platter and was 10 out of 10. rice was spot on. This is a small restaurant but it certainly packs quite a punch. Parking just outside really handy.
