“The Best Lobster I've Ever Tasted”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

We were planning a day trip to Belfast to see the Titanic Exhibition to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my wife searched the net for a good place to eat before we caught the evening train back to Dublin. She said that the Mourne Seafood Restaurant was highly rated, so we made a booking. The ratings were not wrong! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and went home happy

“Lovely seafood”
Reviewed August 18, 2014

We went on a Sunday; refurbishments of the square outside the restaurant meant that it opened an hour late and could be slightly difficult to find but approach from the Castlecourt Shopping Centre or Castle Lane. The restaurant doesnt take bookings on a Sunday but we were lucky and got a table for 2 straight away (we noticed a pretty fast moving queue later on). We had starters, main and desert and a beer each. We found it pretty good value and great food. Really interesting Japanese style oysters and heaps of smoked salmon for starters, great seafood stew and cod for main and sticky toffee pudding or brownie for desert.
We were attended to very well by the staff and really enjoyed our meal and the restaurant ambience.
Go!

“Wonderful food, service??”
Reviewed August 18, 2014

This restaurant was highly recommended to us by hotel staff and people on the street. Rather difficult to find and had to ask directions several times (doing construction work in area but some signage for restaurant would help).
Food was superb from oysters, chowder, mains and dessert.
Only negative was the rather indifference of the staff, felt service should have been more attentive in an expensive restaurant.

“Fresh, delicious NI seafood at reasonable prices”
Reviewed August 16, 2014

I knew it was a popular place, so on a two -day trip to Belfast I felt lucky to even get a 9.15pm seating on a Wednesday night. It was very easy to kill time in the old pub next door, Kelly'sCellar, where a group of young locals were doing an Irish music set. We started with half a dozen pacific oysters from donegal, au natural, which were spanking fresh. Then we had a half pot of mussels in white wine garlic and cream. The mussels were small but full of flavour, as was the creamy thyme-infused sauce. Our next dish was pan-seared scallops with chive and pea risotto. Again the scallops were small but it was quite generous as a half-serve with six scallops, and they were perfectly cooked and seasoned. We were washing all this down with a very reasonable Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. The last course was roast cod with herb gnocchi and mushroom velouté. For every dish I was impressed with the seasoning and intensity of flavours. Presentation was lovely and the young staff were very professional. Some reviewers rather bizarrely have mentioned the 'odd' or 'off the beaten track' location but it is just behind a major intersection. And as I mentioned, it was a wonderful opportunity to combine a great seafood meal with a feisty Irish music session at one of the city's most historic an oldest pubs next door. Highly recommended for people who like seafood fresh, simple and reasonably-priced.
