“An oasis of calm!”
Reviewed July 13, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

I was one of a group of 5 who recently stayed in this charming cottage on the outskirts of Belfast, my other friends have already written reviews and I couldn't not do a review, so impressed was I with this fabulous find. On arrival we were met by Martina and Dyl who welcomed us warmly and went out of their way to ensure our every comfort was met. The cottage is lovely and has been restored to a very high standard and was obviously a labour of love for our hosts, while quite modern it still retains that olde worlde feel from the range in the kitchen to the lovely stone wall in the downstairs bedroom. I particularly loved my downstairs bedroom and adjoining wet room which was very suited to people with mobility difficulties. This property has so much going for it, from the lovely courtyard at the back with table and chairs where we got the evening sun to the lovely sumptuous beds and luxurious towels and the feeling of being out in the country yet only a few miles from the centre of Belfast. I loved the proximity of the cottage to Belfast, also Castlereagh golf course is a stone's throw away and La Mons hotel with its fantastic spa is less than a mile away. This is an ideal location to get away from it all for a few days and for exploring the beautiful city of Belfast and the Antrim coast and the fantastic hosts will provide you with all the information you need to help you on your way.

“Two Perfect Days In Belfast!!”
Reviewed July 10, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

How can I do this charming cottage justice! Just had the most amazing ,hectic, fun filled 48 hours on the Antrim Coast and Belfast City! In no small way due to Martina & Dyl Firth the owners of "Ulster Cottage" My mother is Belfast born & bred and I always knew of the "northern hospitality & sense of humour" but these two wonderful welcoming people are on another level. On arrival Martina actually had the kettle boiled for us as we had rang her for directions & didnt realise we were only 5 minutes away!! She was so welcoming and so eager for us to enjoy every second of our mini break. The cottage is so beautifully restored so homely but what sold it for me was the two great nights sleep!! The beds are just luxurious. Pillows, bedlinen etc are definitely five star quality! We were all agreed on that. Martina & Dyl advised us to "do the antrim coast" what a treat. They have such a knowledge of the area every town, village, castle ,restaurant was better than the next! Having driven up the coast & down on our first day we were all in need of a little TLC! Martina recommended some beauty treatments in the very nearby "Le Mon" Hotel & Spa. Definitely worth a vist if you have an hour to spare! My full body massage ( think by Anna or Ciara) was one of the best i have ever had. Northern Ireland Tourism are doing a stellar job in promoting all they have to offer, & its easy to see why they are so successful if its people like Martina & Dyl Firth who are running it. If you are looking for a cottage for a few days touring "the north" you wont do better than this. Ill be back thats for sure.

“Absolutely fabulous lovingly restored cottage! Loved it”
Reviewed July 10, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

I recently stayed in Greystone cottage where I was met by Martina a lovely lady, who was very warm and welcoming to us. She also had a great wealth of local knowledge and gave us loads of useful tips re restaurants and attractions. She also had a great knowledge of local history that she shared with us. She made us feel at home instantly and really had our comfort and interests at heart. The gorgeous cottage itself has been lovingly restored very recently. It oozes warmth and comfort with beds and soft furnishings of a very high standard. The cottage was extremely clean. As one of my party was disabled I was particularly impressed how accessible it was to wheelchairs while also having a disabled bedroom and bathroom facilities on the ground floor. It's location on the outskirts of the city was perfect as we wanted to explore the city city aswell as the Antrim coastline. We thoroughly our stay and and look forward to returning again!! Would definitely recommend Greystone cottage!!

“Such Comfort - Home away from Home”
Reviewed July 10, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

I can only echo the other rave reviews written for this cottage. The location, with close proximity to Belfast is indeed perfect - easy to find, most comfortable, quiet, accommodating & very safe for children with an enclosed back garden. The cottage is just beautiful – so tastefully renovated. Everything you would hope to find was there. The owner, Martina was extremely well-organized, fun, and eager to offer suggestions and share history. She even had a welcome pack of tea, coffee, scones & cereals etc. The drive she recommended for us, up the coast to the Giants Causeway, was just amazing! She even recommended and booked restaurants to eat in! Two of our very best days during two weeks of travels.

“Home away from home in the Belfast countryside”
Reviewed July 4, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Absolutely perfect! My mum and I stayed at Martina's lovely Ulster cottage for over a week to attend a genealogy conference, and we couldn't have been happier. The cottage itself was tastefully renovated, spotlessly clean, and featured all the comforts of home - including comfy beds, fresh linens, and a pretty, private backyard. The location was ideal - out in the countryside (so you can enjoy the peace and quiet), but surprisingly close to the city.

Best of all, were the hosts themselves. Martina and Dill are so warm and friendly - they felt like old friends. Despite our late arrival, Martina was ready to greet us with a welcome package of scones, jam, butter, milk, and fresh eggs (from her own chickens!), and she was always available to answer any questions. Knowing that we were in town to research our family history, her husband, Dill, was happy to share his knowledge of the local area and even went out of his way to bring us to some spots that we wanted to see - which turned out to be a highlight of our trip.

Thank you both for the wonderful stay. We'll definitely be back!

“Wonderful hospitality”
Reviewed June 29, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We stayed at several nice places during our trip to Ireland but they paled in comparison to Ulster Cottage. Martina and her husband were amazing hosts and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We didn't want to drive in Belfast so they helped us arrange for taxis and when we realized that a bus would be just as easy as a taxi and obviously more affordable, Martina drove us out to show us where the bus stop was located. This made the next day a lot less stressful.
You think you are out in the country but downtown Belfast is not far at all. We used the bus to get us to the Game of Thrones tour and also the Titanic Museum with no issues at all.
There was milk, cereal, scones, butter, and jam waiting for us and the house is just lovely. I would certainly recommend staying here. We will the next time we are in Belfast.

“Super place to stay, feels like the countryside, but right on the edge of town”
Reviewed June 20, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Martina could not have been more helpful prior to our arriving or more welcoming when we did. The cottage has been cleverly restored to very high standard, and better than we expected. One of the best things when there is the feeling of being in the middle of the countryside (the great Ulster weather helped!), even though you're only a few minutes from what the city can offer. There is alot of space on the overall property, which the children enjoyed along with exploring the chicken coup that provided the fresh eggs. Will definitely look to stay again when visiting.
