We have to plan our meals out well in advance as my wife is a wheelchair user and a strict vegetarian - difficult to find good restaurants at the best of times. We visit Castellamare quite often as the location of this great venue provides fantastic views of the local coastline and of course the food makes it well worth a day trip from Cardiff.

There is a large 'Pay & Display' car park next to the restaurant with several designated disabled bays for blue badge holders. It is situated right next to the beach and the views on a clear day are beautiful. Level access from the car park to the restaurant and the cafe is available with ramp access to the facilities.

The double, double doors into the restaurant could be tricky to negotiate but I have to say, on every occasion we have visited, the staff have seen us coming and not hesitated in helping us through. There are only a few tables that are suitable for a wheelchair user as the restaurant is on two levels separated by 3 steps. Unfortunetely for us, the upper level is the best one for the panoramic views of the coast line. There is a disabled toilet situated between the restaurant and the cafe and I must say, it is probably one of the best thought out faciltiy I have seen in a long time - easily accessible and plenty of room for a carer and a wheelchair.

A comprehensive menu which as you would expect for an Italian restaurant, always plenty of vegetarian choices. The food is of an excellent quality, always served piping hot and good portions. Having lived in the the region of Italy from which this restaurant originates, I can confirm the food is exceptionally authentic and tastes just like what you would receive when you sat in a restaurant on the South West coast of Italy.

The staff are very attentive and professional and the overal service is excellent. Some may say the prices are a little high, but considering the little extras thrown in, the beautiful location, quality of food and service, I cannot support this view. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this venue to anyone.

Main Restaurant:
Lovely atmosphere, nice big wooden tables, very traditional. Servers are all italian which adds to the authenticity and are all friendly. At night there are candles on the table which is romantic. Only a few pasta options for vegetarians which is slightly dissapointing, however they are large portions and very filling, feels as if you will never get to the bottom of the bowl. Complementary basket of the best bread ever on your table! Slightly expensive, so would only come here on a special occasion.

Cafe:
Lovely simple food with a wide selection. Had two pizzas, very large and more than enough, selection of bread basket, the most wonderful bread you will ever eat, and drinks. Again large drinks, although the water was slightly warm and not ice cold. Lovely atmosphere, busy but a nice buzz. Service was fine, go up to the counter and order yourself and brought over. Not hassled but constantly asking if your okay which is fine for me! Good value too for portion size!

Lovely views out over the beach and of mumbles lighthouse from both and outdoor seating avaliable for both. Large carpark right next to it, perfect!

have been to both the restaurant and cafe on many occasions and found it great each time. I love the restaurant, the food is great, the views are spectacular, parking is easy, take a walk along the costal paths or down to the sea before or after dinner, seat in or outside, plenty of parking for a small charge. there is also a childrens playground very close by.
THE RESTAURANT is on two levels, and the upper level has a better view, unfortunately it is not accessible by wheelchair or for disabled who are unable to walk up about 5 steps. The lower level still has a window seat which is great.
the food is great, they bring a basked of a selection of breads and today we had oil and balsamic vinegar - delicious. at lunch you can chose off a set menu for £9.95 for 2 courses. the a la carte has a good selection plus there is a specials menu available on the blackboard. I had the steak with the castellamare sauce - lovely, my hubby had sea bass which was lovely and accompanied by a salad that included artichokes. the icecreams are big enough to share. We have always had excellent service.
THE CAFE. we frequently go for coffee and when the weather allow (no laughing it is Wales) we sit outside on the tables that have wind breaks to protect you. the coffee is not expensive. we occasionally have lunch here of pasta or pizza which is great as it is an Italian restaurant. to order one goes to a counter and then the drinks/ food are brought to your table which has number that you give when making your order.
I would definitely recommend both.

First time at this restaurant although been to its sister restaurant Pizzeria Vesuvious. In a nutshell, I won't be rushing back. Food was ok, but expensive, service was very rushed and a bit slap-dash, the waiter nearly knocked my wine over when he served my dessert, he was in such a hurry. I agree with some of the reviews and I can imagine that it would be a lovely place to have a coffee or lunch on a summer's day but there are better restaurants for the price in the area.
