Just stayed here for one night when visiting Swansea.

Hotel was lovely and clean, the rooms were a good size and all in order. There was no tea or coffee when I got to the room, but I simply told reception and it was promtly brought to my room no questions asked. The staff were very friendly and helpful whenever I interacted with them. Bed was lovely and comfy, and breakfast was very good the next morning.
All in all, a good stay, reasonable price and no complaints. Would recommend.

Stayed for one night, and on entering our room, the dim lighting, showed all the mirrors to be dusty and smeared, entering the bathroom, grout missing from the tiles on floor, making it look and feel grubby. We sat on the bed, which i must be honest was really comfy, shame the bed spread was ripped, staining on walls and floor. Unfortunetly for us there was an event on 4 floors down and until 1pm all we could here was the thudding of music, (i don't begrudge anyone a night out, but you think the hotel would have ear plugs for the guests who just want to sleep, i did ask at reception)

Then breakfast was really poor, thank goodness you could make your own toast. I'm sure the continental side was fab for those who want that, but the full english was cold (like fridge cold) bacon tasted like it was the day before and as for the grilled tomato, it was just a cold tomato, maybe they were hoping the heat lamps would cook them through as the morning went on.

It was a shame as we don't get many nights away, and i wish id stayed at home.

Room Tip: just ask not to be above the function room or the pub side (irrelant which floor because we were on...

Well on our second trip to The Village, I have to say it was far better than the first. Firstly the very friendly, informative and helpful CeriAnne and Olivia on reception were both lovely. Now the Upper Deck room doesn't look any different to the regular, but the bed was fab, the sachets of coffee are from Starbucks, there is a Bose iPod docking station, and Full Sky tv.
I have got to say I prefer the old restaurant menu but the spaghetti and meatballs was delicious at Vinnie and Vito's restaurant. The baked Alaska had run out and the brownie was disgusting. The concierge was lovely but service staff are not as attentive as I would expect. The sea view in the morning was nice and breakfast as always was 1st rate. Starting the day with a full English, some nice pastries and a good cuppa is always good.
So the Village has redeemed itself, for me anyway.....
I do hope they add some family plus rooms like the Village in Swindon so I can bring the 3 kids next time.

Room Tip: Upper deck is the way to go

We stayed in an upper deck room, bed was amazing, full Sky movies package on the TV, very well decorated and clean, well worth the upgrade.
We ate in Vinnie & Vito's and the food was fantastic, the service from every member of staff we encountered was brilliant, they certainly gave the impression that they enjoy their jobs.
We will definately be back.
We did visit the pool and spa but just lacked a little of the intimacy that I prefer, however the changing rooms were very well equipped and spotlessly clean.
Overall a very enjoyable birthday treat.

Room Tip: definately upgrade to upper deck

We have family in the area and have stayed at a number of hotels locally from cheap and cheerful to more expensive boutique properties. I have to stay that the Village wasn't a pleasant experience overall.

The reception area is very big and modern and nicely lit and furnished lulling you into a false sense of security. My partner was going back out to see the rugby with his brother and I was happy to stay and relax in the room for a bit. That was until I got to the room! It was absolutely freezing ( the heating only starts to work one you put your keycard in the slot ), and I couldn't understand why on a winter's day the hotel could not have perhaps put the heating on in any rooms that were due to be occupied? It took over an hour to warm up sufficiently for me to take my coat and hat off which was not a great start. The room itself was a disappointment - very shabby with marks all over the walls and a huge ( about a meter wide ) stain on the carpet. This was a shame as it was a decent size. The bed was comfy with clean bedding however it was so close to the windown that you had to edge around touching the window to get in on one side ( as I had to later on when my other half was already in! ). The bedside tables were fixed so we couldn't even move it slightly and I felt really hemmed in.

I only realised this was a disabled access room when I went into the bathroom - we hadn't requested such a room and it should have been made clear when we booked that this was the only room available ( although we had booked some months in advance ). The sink was set so low I actually cricked my back when I washed my face ( and I'm not that old! ) and I was looking forward to a lovely shower but there were handholds and a big plastic chair in the way and the showerhead leaked.

The bathroom was clean but some very discoloured grout around the shower which didn't look great.

There was a wedding on at the hotel the night we stayed and staff seemed to have little or no control over the situation. I appreciate they cannot be held responsible for the behaviour of individuals but when large numbers of lairy lads are smoking in the doorway I think a 4 star hotel should be professionally asking them to move outside as it was quite intimidating to walk through them.

The restaurant where we had breakfast was actually very nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. Really good selection of mini pastries, fruit, cereals and the usual continental selection. The hot buffet was OK but the scrambled eggs looked horrible! However you can have eggs cooked to order and I had a really good omlette.

On check out we were asked how our stay was and we mentioned some of the issues with the room ( and we had asked to move rooms on arrival as we were unhappy but they were fully booked ). Disconcertingly the receptionist looked straight at us as if we hadn't said anything and told us to have a safe trip home! Quite bizarre.

In summary, this is not a 4 star hotel. There are far nicer ( cheaper ) hotels in Swansea - the Ibis is great if you're on a budget and there are a lot of decent B&Bs too. Our experience was disappointing to say the least and I cannot recommend the Urban Village to anyone I'm afraid.

Room Tip: Check that you haven't been allocated a disabled access room as the bathrooms are not very nice!

My husband and I visit swansea twice a year and always stay at the Village. We have always had only the best experience in this hotel hence why we keep returning. Swansea shopping centre is literally a nice 15 mins stroll from the hotel. The staff are friendly, excellent service and the food in the bar and restaurant cannot be faulted. This time we stayed in the upper deck which again met all our expectations. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant and also visited the health suite. Again our stay was fabulous and we will be back before the end of the year.
