“Nice business hotel”
Reviewed September 28, 2013 via mobile

Good hotel situated in the redeveloped area. Staff extremely courteous and friendly. Bar meals on par with other business hotels. Rooms spacious and bed nice and firm. Good quality breakfast. 20 mins walk into the town. Would stay again if in the area

Having stayed in another DeVere hotel before, which I was downright excited about, I decided to try another DeVere when I had to make a trip to Wales. This hotel in Swansea made a good impression on the website, especially in terms of facilities, so I gave it a go. The receptionist was helpful and friendly. And the room was perfectly allright - but I was expecting more for the money. It offered everything a Premier Inn room would have offered, but at a higher price. Admitted, it was nice to have the bonus of a spa with a huge pool, so maybe that's supposed to justify the price difference, but I was expecting more in the room - a frig, for instance, or a small safe, just something more to justify the stars and prices of the hotel and its rooms. Speaking of the pool, I'd never seen a hotel pool at competition size, but it was very busy and noisy, so much so that it reminded me of a public pool. Some more comments: The location of the hotel being at walking distance from the centre of the city is handy. Breakfast is good, but you have to come early, because later on everything that's gone simply isn't replenished or replaced. Service in the restaurant is very friendly and helpful, though, and despite the breakfast being a buffet, special wishes are catered for - for instance, I had my eggs poached. Conclusion? Well, I didn't mind this hotel at all, I just didn't think it was worth the price.

Room Tip: If you want a room that goes with the number of stars this hotel has, you may be disappointed if you...

I've stayed at the Village in Swansea on many occasions either for an overnight stay or a few nights away.

On most of my stays I've stayed UpperDeck and the addition of the Sky and Starbucks in the room is a welcome upgrade which is worth having, especially if staying more than a night.

Breakfast is always hot, but there's guaranteed to always be queues, there's signs in the lifts advising of quieter times and its best to stick to them if you don't want to be standing around queuing.

The Standard rooms are also great with big TVs, air con, and all rooms have a sofa. One thing to note is the rooms are often quite warm, and if you're on the top floor, the Air Con units have a tendancy to make a dripping noise after being switched off for some reason!

The gym and pool are also great to have for free, and the gym staff are always friends, although the pool could be warmer, and the jacuzzi is always unavailable with always the same guests occupying it most of the time you're in the pool. But steam room and sauna is good!

Room Tip: Always ask for a marina facing room. Avoid top floor for air con that makes the dripping noise!

Stayed here on a couple of occasions now, some of the reception staff may have been having a bad day on this occasion. It was not the normal 'Meet and Greet'. Gym staff very helpful and breakfast bar staff exceptional.
Bar prices are a total rip off when purchasing wine by the glass. You will pay £8.50 per glass of Shiraz. That is totally unacceptable. They have an offer on for the Guest Ale @ £2.50 per pint right through the day on certain makes. Guess what when you are a resident and you arrive after 11pm after working all day, the price goes up to £3.90. Will stay at the Marriott next time.

Stayed here with work. Seemed to have everything you would need in a hotel of this size and type. Bit of a walk into town, with not a lot surrounding it so not so good if you're planning on using the city night life. Clean. Huge bed. Did report a problem with the TV, but it eas never resolved - the free wifi served a useful distraction instead

We have just returned from this hotel , booked a three night dinner bed and breakfast break, have to say it was faultless. We had a disabled access room which was excellent . The breakfast was fresh and plentiful, and the staff were superb, we ate in the victory on the first night , the food was great , well cooked and huge portions and we ate in the italian Vini and Vitos on the other two nights , Fantastic , the staff are so helpful polite and attentive , special thanks to Lucas , Mark and Rachel absolutely cracking staff, We also used the pool , where the staff were only to happy to assist us and used the pool hoist to get my husband out of the pool .The reception staff were also , very helpful . all in all we found them all to be polite , helpful and cheerfull , The only downside was the lift , there was a few children who were playing in the lifts and we had long waits every time we used it , with a wheelchair we had no choice, really a hotel of this size needs more than one lift , but all said we had a great time with good friends , will definately be using the hotel again

Room Tip: The front is noisier

My sister and I stayed here at the end of August 2013 for 3 nights and paid an amazing £55 per night for a twin-bedded room with breakfast. We had to pay in advance with no option to cancel or amend dates. Our room was spacious with an ensuite bath and shower above plus TV, free wi-fi, hairdryer and even an ironing board. The swimming pool is 25 metres in length which is bigger than most pools in more expensive hotels. The area is not as fashionable as the more upmarket marina but is pleasant and modern. We ate in the Victory Pub (2 main courses for £10 before 4pm) and Vinny and Vito's Italian restaurant restaurant (2 courses for £10.95 before 7pm). There is also a large car park in front of the hotel. The staff were also pleasant and helpful. My only complaint was with the TV where the sound volume and picture quality varied between the few channels available. The prices were for a 2 or 3 star hotel but the facilities and service were (almost) 4 star. We will definitely stay here the next time we are in Swansea.
