The lodge is set in a beautiful location overlooking the golf course. The outside appearance of the lodge is somewhat shabby but the room was extremely clean, if on the the small side. We were extremely disappointed to have no view whatsoever as we were in one of the attic rooms, at the very top of the lodge. This made the room feel very claustrophobic. All photos we had looked at showed the gorgeous views and we were not made aware that some rooms only had skylights! If you stood on the bed you could see out! Also the bathroom had no blind on the skylight so the morning sun was absolutely blinding! No spare loo role, no room to hang anything in wardrobes, which were at waist height. The room was overpriced at £90 for one night. Only one biscuit left in the room with the tea tray! Surely you could leave two! Breakfast was included and the chef was very friendly, this was the best part of our stay! Will use The Norton House next time, more expensive but much better value.

Room tip: Don't have an attic room.

Thank you for your comments. Obviously we're disappointed you didn't enjoy your stay but we appreciate your comments. Our previous guests have generally been very complimentary about our facilities, rooms and service but we do understand that different customers have different needs.

Stayed in a small but very clean room.Quiet location and very comfy beds. Enjoyed a great dinner at The Castallemere Italian restaurant between The Mumbles and Langland.
Not the greatest breakfast on Sunday. Adequate at best.
You need to change the prepacked butter portions more often

I found Somerfield Lodge on Trip adviser and booked for my wife and I as a base for exploring the Mumbles area. The photograph on the site shows a lovely view of the bay and their blurb says:

"Overlooking Swansea Bay, Somerfield Lodge provides well-appointed bed and breakfast accommodation right next to Clyne Golf Club and less than 4 miles from the city centre."

Whilst this is technically correct, there is actually no view of the bay, and the lodge is right next to Clyne Golf Course CLUBHOUSE; actually on the golf course. The picture on the website is of the lodge as viewed from the course, and is very misleading. All you can see from the lodge itself is the golf course.

Both nights we stayed there had events on at the clubhouse, so our room, (No.1) which was right next to the balcony of the clubhouse bar, was treated to the sounds of loud, drunken conversations, music, announcements over the PA in the bar, and general comings and goings in the car park (also outside our room) until the small hours. Not conducive to a restful weekend at all!

Having said that; the staff were lovely, the breakfast was good and the room was clean and in good condition. So, if you're booking the lodge as a party, as a place to stay after a wedding reception or some other event, I think it works well. If you're looking for a quiet B&B with a view of the bay, Somerfield Lodge should be avoided.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay. We are taking on board your comments about the Booking.com description of our B&B and will be making the necessary amendments.

B & B guests have the use of the bar and dining facilities subject to opening hours and possible restricted use if club functions are taking place. We usually only have major club functions once a month so it was unfortunate that your stay coincided with functions on both nights.

Nevertheless, our facilities are carefully monitored by Visit Wales to ensure we comply with their recommended 4* standards.

The room was clean and looked new but found the room to be small. On arrival at about 7pm we had to go to the lounge in the bar to check in and was given our keys, then the man told us its room 2, I looked at him and said where is that and could he show us, which he did. There is not a proper reception at this place and when it's the first time staying at this place, it can be confusing as to where you have to pick the keys up, which also felt unwelcoming. We won't be staying at this place again.

Thank you for your review. We're sorry you felt unwelcomed; previous guests have all said how friendly our staff were. All our guests are personally shown to their rooms on arrival and our staff are all trained to do so automatically.

We are a B&B based at a golf club and therefore we don't have a reception as per hotels. However, we have a good signage system for guests to check in at our lounge bar where our staff are always happy to help.
