Booked this hotel as I liked the idea of using the leisure facilities after a long 5 hour drive to Cardiff, however they were a big disappointment; the gym was a very small room crammed with 8 pieces of equipment (with a couple more spilling out into the pool area), the pool was about 4m x 4m, slightly larger than a Jacuzzi only without the bubbles!
The general feel of the rest of the hotel is one of an old peoples home complete with not very relaxing Shackletons High seat chairs (comfy sofas in the lounge/bar area would be good) and strange smells in the corridors.
The room was clean enough though but the shower did lack power.
The bar had very limited choice of beers and the restraunt did seem a bit over-staffed at night and seemed a bit over-priced if you didn't use the (limited) 3 course set menu.
Breakfast was excellent though (even fried bread!) apart from the slightly stale croissants and the unfriendly greeting from the stressed restraunt manager.
All in all not worth the £100 I paid for the DBB booking, so think I will book a holiday inn express next time im down that way.
...and the old peoples home feel was re-enforced in the morning when the coach arrived to pick up all the OAPs waiting in the reception.

I stayed here again and the people were lovely. The hotel is in need of a full overhaul. As you walk down the corridor to your room the smell of mildew is impossible to miss. My room was spotless and breakfast was excellent. I went to the health club which is in a very poor state of repair. Tiles hanging off the walls, gym equipment rusting away where it is so old. The shower in the mens changing room is not even attached to the wall and there is mildew in between the tiles, not pleasant at all. There was a very low number of guests which may explain why these basics are not being addressed.

Room Tip: Ask to be near reception otherwise it can be a very long walk

Dear AdrianH1967,

Many thanks for your review.

The mildew smell was caused by a guest flooding a bathroom and bedroom !! a couple of days earlier, and despite our best efforts this did result in that whole corridor smelling for a few days afterwards before we finally gave up and removed the carpet as it was beyond saving! With regards to the health club our maintenance team have been in there today and corrected what they can, but we are waiting for matching tiles to repair the couple of broken ones at the bottom of the pillar that you refer to.

Best Regards

Although I didn't stay at this hotel, so couldn't give a fool review of its services, I did enjoy the warm and friendly welcome that greeted us for our Christmas party. Staff were polite, the food was on time and cooked to perfection in my view, and although the hotel is a little out of the way it appears to have everything for a regular traveler or gathering. Sorry I can't be bore specific but hope it's of some help.

I booked this hotel for two nights having read the trip adviser reviews and wanting a hotel with a swimming pool and spa. Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. I arrived late at night and found it to be located close to the retail park. Parking was free and the reception staff were helpful but the décor is rather tired and my room had a terrible smell although appeared clean. Bulbs also needed replacing and the wallpaper was peeling. I had booked the best available room which was supposed to include wifi and movies but I was not provided with any login information and could not access the films. Breakfast was good and again the staff were helpful. I asked to change rooms the second day as the smell bothered me all night and the new room was tired like the previous one but thankfully smell free. I planned to use the spa facilities that day but there was a problem with the heating and the pool was not useable so my main reason for choosing the hotel was pointless.
The staff saved this from being a complete disaster but it was very poor value and despite complaining on leaving there was no apology or compensation offered.
With a refurb this could be drastically improved.

Room Tip: I have tried to rank cleanliness and service higher so please ignore the rankings showing. it would...

On Christmas day my family and I had lunch at the Mercure. We arrived and had a few drinks at the bar which is a warm and inviting area to sit. We were shown to our table which was wonderfully decorated for the occasion. Our waiter, Gareth; Introduced himself politely and wished us a Merry Christmas with a brilliant smile, he was very attentive and extremely efficient, especially as he was also waiting on numerous other groups of people around us, by far one of the best waiters I have ever encountered. We are extremely grateful that he was able to spend some of his Christmas making ours so enjoyable. The food was excellent quality and we left very happy and very full! This was the first time we had eaten at this hotel and we look forward to returning for other events here in the future. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

We stay in Swansea regularly to visit family and mostly choose chain hotels. A Boxing Day arrival meant our usual choices were already booked up so we chose the Mercure in a comparable price range although not in a central Swansea location.
We received a warm welcome and our room faced onto a closed courtyard, a blessing when high winds and torrential rain had been forecast! The room heater very quickly gave off a good level of heat, which was a boon when the temperature plummeted on our third morning. The window appeared not to open – obviously, though, not a problem in midwinter except for a degree of condensation on and around the window area. Clean and bright, with very friendly and attentive staff, the hotel was just what we would expect.
Our mistake, however, was in choosing a dinner, bed and breakfast deal.
The buffet-style breakfast was excellent, but the dinner menu was very limited and a little overpriced and we were advised anything over £22.00 pp, or not on the special menu, was chargeable. Our usual “main course and a large glass of wine and an orange and lemonade” with, sometimes, a desert has elsewhere been well within a comparable dinner price limit. Here, however, the drinks were on a separate bill, and chargeable – so our 3-night stay attracted a "extra" - a bar bill of £30.18. An expensive mistake

Dear Fisher & Friend,

Many thanks for your review. During the period from Xmas Day through to 6th Jan we do operate a more limited menu as the hotel is quiet and to operate the full menu would result in a lot of wastage. Please acept my apologies if this impacted on your experience of our dinner incusive rate.

Best Regards
