I have visited The Fountain inn on numerous occasions over the years and seen it through several transformations in its decor and dining. It has a unique history in the village and evidence of past times is all around in the form of old photos. It has undergone a great refurbishment in the past couple of years and the rooms are very nicely decorated. They are clean and comfy, but let down by a lack of being serviced each day. When I queried why, the response was that some guests don't like having people in their rooms. Why then would guests go to a hotel if not to have someone clean up after them, if only to have clean cups, glasses and the bin emptied - not much to ask. Brekky is minimalistic - no buffet style - a verbal run through of cereals etc and that's what turns up in a dish. Not offer of fruit, yoghurt etc, the usual fare I have come to expect. Perhaps a sign of tough times in the hotel business. The up side was dinner on a Tuesday night. Well cooked meals across the 6 of us who were dining, though veggies looked a little sad and overcooked. But thumbs up to the cook. I will return as it is convenient to visit relatives in the village, but servicing of the rooms needs attention.

Room Tip: Room that does not overlook main road - through traffic starts early in the morning.

Fountain Inn has a lot of history and this is in evidence in the photographs and illustrations on the walls in the bar and dining room. For example, the links to the Rebecca Riots against road tolls during the 19th century. Near the hotel there is a monument to the Riots.

There is plenty of choice of meals according to budget, including baguette/jacket potatoes, a set lunch menu, and a la carte menu. The food was very good and arrived hot and freshly cooked. The waitress was friendly and helpful, and the restaurant was very clean and airy on a very hot day.

One of our party was staying at the Inn and told us that they had specially provided the cereal of choice on the second morning after asking what was preferred the day before.

Sadly only stayed here overnight, found it by accident. The restaurant was superb as was the food. The room was the best I've ever stayed in and I've travelled to a lot of places. Would definitely not hesitate to return.

We often stay at the Fountain Inn as our son lives in the village. Room 5 is the best at the top of the stairs. The breakfasts are amazing with the best scrambled eggs in Wales!! The room is great and always very clean and welcoming. The food in the restaurant downstairs is fabulous. Vicki and the team do a great job. We wouldn't stay anywhere else!!

Room Tip: All rooms beautifully decorated but room 5 is the quietest. It really looks like the one in the pict...

We were in this area for a relatives party and needed somewhere to stay. Found this Inn it looked good (it looked like the photos). The Inn is a pub with restaurant and a small number of rooms above. We checked in at the bar and we were shown to what looked like a fairly newly decorated room pleasantly furnished with tv tea and coffee facilities. En suite bathroom was a bit small with a small shower but fine for our overnight stay. We managed to find time for a drink in the bar which was pleasant modern decoration and looking fairly newly furnished. It was getting busy with people coming in for food and drink just as we were leaving to go out. On our return my wife had a good night sleep but my sleep was not so good as i like a large bed and a firmer mattress. We went down for a late breakfast on Sunday morning and service and food were excellent. They were also great as they were happy for some other friends staying elsewhere to join us for breakfast. Parking is just out the back of the Inn. The Inn has a very nice outside seating area with tables set at different levels as it rises to the car park. Four rating given for the breakfast and service.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and thought it was good value. if i was in this area would stay here again.

Got a late availability deal so value was great. Nice hotel in nice country location. Cardiff city centre not too far away by car, so makes an alternative to staying in city centre. Room good and breakfast was also good quality. Drinks as often the case in hotels not the best value.
