I have visited The Fountain inn on numerous occasions over the years and seen it through several transformations in its decor and dining. It has a unique history in the village and evidence of past times is all around in the form of old photos. It has undergone a great refurbishment in the past couple of years and the rooms are very nicely decorated. They are clean and comfy, but let down by a lack of being serviced each day. When I queried why, the response was that some guests don't like having people in their rooms. Why then would guests go to a hotel if not to have someone clean up after them, if only to have clean cups, glasses and the bin emptied - not much to ask. Brekky is minimalistic - no buffet style - a verbal run through of cereals etc and that's what turns up in a dish. Not offer of fruit, yoghurt etc, the usual fare I have come to expect. Perhaps a sign of tough times in the hotel business. The up side was dinner on a Tuesday night. Well cooked meals across the 6 of us who were dining, though veggies looked a little sad and overcooked. But thumbs up to the cook. I will return as it is convenient to visit relatives in the village, but servicing of the rooms needs attention.
