“What a revelation”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

We spent August Bank Holiday at this site and it was a delight to discover a large family campsite that is staffed by friendly and helpful people. I can't say enough about the site staff, they were super helpful, always patient and a delight to deal with... try saying that about some British campsites!
As for the site it was clean and well managed. The shop was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. The showers and toilets were kept very clean and (amazingly for a busy bank holiday) I didn't have to dip into my own supply of toilet paper.
We camped in a small field that was an irritatingly long walk from the toilet block, but as the site was chock full that was to be expected for a late booking (and arrival).
There was some waiting around for a shower in the morning, but although the site was bursting at the seams, the wait was never longer than 10 minutes.
We'll be returning to the site.

I spent the whole bank holiday in this site and can honestly say it's the best site i have ever been to. The site was full, with an estimated 250 tents and vans etc.. There was a wait for showers mainly because everyone wanted to shower at the same time after returning from the beach. They were very clean, and hot water was constant. Cars were kept to a minimum on site to make room for all the campers which I thought was a good idea. The staff were pleasant and helpful at all times. Good washing facilities ,How they coped with so many camper is truly remarkable will definitely use the site again

Room Tip: The Campsite is better for family camping as there are strict rules on noise levels after 10.o clock...

Nice camp site, 240 pitches, the site was full, 4 showers for men, 6 for women, hence not enough showers and long queues, poor quality hot water in showers and utility area. All nice and clean. Nice site, would return, have been to a lot worst.

Good site, Nice and Lenient site. Toilet services are good seemed clean, showers were a pain and main let down, only a small amount of male and female showers, roughly 10 in total, even though camp site takes 200-300 guests. cubicles were ok but drainage was very poor so other peoples dirty water just came under your cubicle making it impossible to change or dry properly, cubicle were dirty often very muddy. We were a large group so not being able to have a shower after being down the beach often put people in a bad mood having to wait around for a could dirty shower. Also they messed up ticket and missed the gazebo off the ticket and a guy came round leaning over the cars and looking through the windows started questioning us about in the middle of the night! Silly Mistake!! They were more worried about the cars parked on site that should be in visitors car park than any tents that shouldn't have been there???

Not related to the site is the Britannia inn, a pud just down the road from the campsite, a pud they recommended. Please avoid this place like the plaque. 17 of us went for a birthday meal at the pud. we ordered food in 4 different orders the largest order was for 8 people and smallest of 1. we waited an hour and 45 mins for the biggest order that was placed first, the smallest order along with other orders on other tables ordered after our first order came out leaving the children starving, no one approached us or said anything about a delay, after an hour and 15 mins we went back to bar and spoke to the manager, a female, who was quite frankly the rudest person you could possibly meet, her excuse was that it took 45 mins to cook stake and ale pies from scratch, she then walked off!! we thought she had walked off to the kitchen to check on our food but after a few mins we walked up the couple stairs to the restaurant part of pud were we found her standing there polishing cutlery, we were then greeted with the welcoming customer friendly words of "WHAT?" after asking her why we weren't told about the delay after being told it would take 15 mins for food or what she was going to do for the poor service and being left waiting she walked off into the kitchen and closed door behind her! we went back outside to wait were she bought just 1 single steak and ale pie out which was eaten only to taste like curry. one of the waitresses bought food out to another table we asked her were our food was and she replied "don't ask me I don't know" we asked her why it took so long and she replied "Its not our fault there's no where to peg orders so there no order" yeah because you always want to here that from waiting staff. We went back inside to speak to the manager again and she replied with "aww what now!" we told her she needed to get the kids food sorted and suggested some cokes for the kids as a gesture of good will she replied "listen, you can have a refund or food" NICE great customer service! yet again she walked off! we went back outside and after a total of 1 hour and 45 mins the manager bought two plates out one was another pie and another was a cheese burger! This was supposed to be a freshly made pie that took 45 mins to cook hence the long wait, IT WAS COLD!!!!!!! and yet again it tasted like curry not stake and ale! and guess what? so was the burger! warm around the outside but stone cold in the middle. the manager slammed the plates down and walked away so we took the food inside and demanded a refund at which point two waitresses laughed in our faces we walked up to the restaurant desk and she was there giving another customer a refund, we asked for a refund and she just laughed, she continued to laugh (i can only assume nervously) as she produced the refund, she went ahead to slam the money on the desk and again walk off into the kitchen.

after all this we were bitten like mad in the garden and had to walk back to the camp site in the dark! we put over £600 into the tills of this pub and yet we still received this appalling service and appalling food!

Avoid like the plaque!!!

Please remember as stated this is not a reflection on the camp site and we are using this to make the campsite visitors aware of the recommended pub!

Room Tip: get there early

this was our first trip since getting our new tent + brought along our11mo beagle puppy and we thoroughly enjoyed!v clean well maintained facilities, excellently stocked shop which sold everything from sausages to windbreaks. only saw a few people who didn't keep their dogs on lead...shame some people think rules do not apply to them! separate fenced off dog walking field was great for us to let our dog offleash as he will just run away to explore given the first opportunity. beautiful location, had a chilled bank holiday weekend here. will definitely be back!

We have just returned from our first trip to the Gower as a family. We chose Kennexstone on the basis of some of the reviews on here as, thankfully, it isn't very well advertised. We are seasoned campers and usually go to north Cornwall but we are now Gower and Kennoxstone converts.
The campsite is kept immaculately by the friendly owners - they even helped me look up a friend in the area! I too found the 'revolving toilets' a little perplexing but I did discover the swap after a couple of pints of the excellent Gower Gold! The toilet , shower and washing up areas are gleaming and their cleanliness seems to inspire the campers to keep them that way- something that has not always been our experience. We never encountered a queue. The owners provide a freezer that can be used by campers and even spare ice blocks for when yours are refreezing. The site shop is great and everything is reasonably priced - a God send when the nearest shop is 4 miles away and that is a garage! The dog walking field is well kept, clean and safely separated from the site.
For the first few nights of our stay there were no tents in the middle of any of the fields so we were able to frisbee and fly kites to our hearts content- soon scuppered by tents plonked in the middle of the field! There was still plenty of room really but we had got selfish! The beaches nearby at Llangennith and Broughton are lovely-helped by the fabulous weather during our stay- we didn't photoshop the blue sky into our snapshots!
The only minor downside to Kennoxstone is that you can't walk to the beach or pub and the narrow lanes would be too dangerous to walk down anyway. We love Kennoxstone and we'll be back next year
