We come to Garuda regularly and are never disappointed as the food is consistently excellent, the staff always friendly and helpful and the service attentive
Favourites are the Gado Gado, I love the tempeh dish and friends love the Beef and the Chicken Samur
The egg noodles are very tasty and the portions generous
This is Indonesian home cooking by a husband and wife team and the restaurant is small with only about 10 tables so suggest book ahead
You can bring your own wine too which has really helped us credit crunched folk
In relation to the comment of the previous person regarding takeaways we have found that it is best to phone ahead as even if the restaurant is empty it is likely to be full later as it is extremely popular ( i think often with repeat customers ) so we think that the food is being cooked in preparation
Overall really good and tasty and very different from Thai or Cantonese/ Chinese food
Recommended if you would like to try something different

Portion sizes are quite small, particularly as most mains cost over £10 and do not include a side. Also, the meat did not taste great quality. However, the sauces had a real depth of flavour so were very tasty and the service was warm and welcoming. We were not disappointed at all, but certain aspects could have been improved upon.

My partner and I visited this restaurant last Friday in order to buy a takeaway. It was early evening (around 6pm) and the restaurant was nearly empty apart from a small group at one table. All the other tables were empty. When we asked if we could order a takeaway, the restaurant owner/manager in quite a rude manner, told us that he didn't take orders when the restaurant was busy. When I pointed to the empty tables, he shrugged his shoulders. This is a shame as we had specifically come to the this restaurant based on Trip Advisor reviews.

We had a lovely evening at Garuda last night, the restaurant is very relaxed and welcoming. The waiter was friendly and helpful and our food arrived promptly and was absolutely delicious. If you like Thai or Indonesian food then this is the place to go but if you would prefer your food a little less spicy they will also tone down the spice to suit your palate. Thoroughly enjoyed.
