The Old Rectory Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #15 of 34 Newport B&B and Inns
Reviewed October 14, 2011

We had the delightful experience of staying at The Old Rectory back in 2008, and loved it so much that when we needed a place to stay back in Wales, there was no question about where to go. Viv and John, and the old house itself, remain warm, welcoming, and utterly delightful.

Situated up on the ridge at Christchurch, you have a beautiful, rural-feeling setting, and yet you're only moments from the M4 and connections in all directions.

We were back in the lovely ensuite bedroom upstairs - which seems to simply inhale sunlight. Everything remains fresh and as new, but with that wonderful homey comfort that makes it so special. The views over the yard, and over the Severn across to England, are simply beautiful, whether the day is sunny or the sea mist rolls in.

Viv hasn't lost her touch with breakfast, either - or the home-baked goods she brings you on arrival. She and John both have that knack for making you feel relaxed and at home, will help with all your local sightseeing plans, and are always willing to stop for a friendly chat.

I can't think why you'd stay anywhere else in the region.

It is hard to add anything to the wonderful reviews alrady written. This place is a gem. So clean and comfortable. Everything you could ever want for a night stay away from home. The breakfast was delicious and so well presented. Viv and John were excellent hosts and their home was really beautiful.

The Old Rectory is a beautiful house, and the rooms are stunning - free wi-fi, long distance views, ultra modern bathrooms, great breakfast cooked to order, and convivial hosts Viv and John.
This is the best bed and breakfast I've ever stayed in, and is on the "return list".
Couldn't fault it, and it's worthy of six stars, never mind five.

So near to Newport and yet so in the country. Unbelievable. The Old Rectory is perfect and Viv and John the very best hosts. They love what they are doing and it shows in every respect. We relaxed more here than at any other holiday stop in the UK in 20 years.

Room Tip: Both rooms are superb.

Viv and John are superb, great friendly service.
We had a great time. We stayed 3 nights and everything changed everyday, and great cookies/biscuits! The breakfast was very enjoyable no matter what one chose.
I come from Newport and there is no better place to anchor. We did some splendid walks - try the "14 Locks" .

Two lovely bedrooms with stunning views and a fantastic breakfast to boot! Viv and John Peters make you feel extremely welcome and are expert guides if you require any information about what to do and see in the area, whether it be a cultural or gastronomic experience that you desire! The Old Rectory is situated in a quiet rural location but only minutes from the M4 and perfectly placed for exploring the area. An extremely enjoyable stay!
