“Busy, friendly, great home cooked food. Best cafe in Newport.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2013 via mobile

I have always found Newport pretty depressing and the choices to eat vary from souless chains to rough pubs and apart from the theatre cafe (worth a visit) nothing has been appealing untill today i found this cafe! Yey! What a little gem.

The staff were friendly and warm. Repeat customers, friends and newbies all alike greeted with a sense of care and warmth. A lovely eclectic mix of customers all drawn by hearty tasty home cooked food. Bussiness men, elders having cake, ladies who lunch and veggie scarf wearing earl grey drinking youngers and culturally diverse visitors from all warps of life all happily chomping away in the warm. Finally a place with a real heart and diversity.

Pie and mash at its best and homemade mushroom soup that converted a mushroom soup hater. Veggie options, spicy wings and great looking cake. Even at busy hight of lunch no sense of being rushed was felt and time drifted away untill it was time to get the amazingly cheap bill and sadly leave. Well done Cedar cafe. Ill come back soon!

“Excellent breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2013

Sadly we only found this cafe on our last day otherwise we would have eaten here every day. The all day breakfast £4.95 including coffee was huge and was cooked to perfection and I would recommend it to anyone looking for food cooked as it should be.

“Best place to eat in Newport”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

If you are unfortunate enough to have to visit Newport city centre; don't despair! Cedars offers a cosy, pleasant retreat from the gloom.

The service is friendly and attention is paid to detail.
The food is superb and while not bargain bucket priced it's certainly reasonable considering the ample portions served.

I have eaten there four times this year and have yet to be disappointed. Well done the staff and owners.

I have never felt rushed even though, due to circumstances beyond my control I arrived after 5pm on two occasions.

“A cosy tearooms and cafe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

Newport is lacking in good `cafes so Cedars is a real find. It's friendly, clean, serves home cooking in substantial portions, and it's right in the town centre.

I can particularly recommend the all day breakfast and the pancakes selection. There's a dish of the day and home made cakes. Or just have a cup of tea.

Cuisine is a good step up from "caff" level but it's not ponced up and overpriced. There's a fair amount of care about health issues but without being pushy about it.

The decor is pine tables and chairs, with some green plants. On nice days you can sit at the pavement tables.

Open every day. Mon - Sat till 5.30, Suns until 4.

My family have been enjoying Cedars for a year now and we find the food and the service consistently delightful. The owner Joe is a warmly welcoming lady and all her staff are similarly willing and helpful.
