“Good pub grub.”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

The setting for this restaurant is beautiful, and the staff were really lovely but I came away feeling slightly disappointed with the menu choices. As I knew there was an offering of exotic meat available I was expecting there to be some fab choices accompanying your meal, not the bog standard vegtables. Admitingly these were lovely and fresh, but also really boring and in my opinion shows no effort being put in from the chef. For a restuarant with such a good name offering your customers just standard pub grub doesnt really cut it, and it wont for much longer as customers demand more.
The wine list was poor and the wine not much better!
In all we had a nice night, but wanted so much more. We would go back, but knowing we are only going to get pub grub. For a special night out we would go elsewhere. I hope the owners take note-because I would love to be able to say that this place was amazing!!!

“very nice evening”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

This restaurant is actually on a farm, and is pretty remote but very easy to find. The restaurant is quite small with a lovely cosy atmosphere and on a summers evening beautiful views across the countryside. The service was good and the menu offers all you would expect eg the usual steak, lamb etc in addition to exotic meats eg lama, shark etc! the menu explains that all vegetables are grown locally including salads and chilles and eggs are laid on the farm. Our soup was ok but the fillet steak with pepper sauce was cooked to perfection for each of us, and NOT mixed up like we often get. So full could not fit in a desert. Prices as expected eg. £23 for fillet with sauce including vegetables. Would definitely recommend.

“Not very special”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

We went for Sunday lunch and had to ask for the menu - it was not offered to us. We had to ask for wine, this also was not offered. The waitress had to go and find out the soup of the day and I heard her repeat that to other customers, so she was not retaining this information. We also had to ask again for the wine which we had ordered as it did not arrive. The starter of beer battered mushrooms with sweet chilli sauce was delicious, crispy and hot. The main of veal was very mediocre, tasted over -cooked and slightly off its best. The roasties were superb, the veggies of cauli, carrots, pureed parsnip, new potatoes and cabbage were all very acceptable. The dessert we both chose was tiramisu and was one of the best I have tasted, with a really strong coffee taste. Double espresso was excellent. A very long wait for the bill spoilt a fair meal. Inexperienced staff and a shortage on the bar should be rectified. I doubt we will return.

“A nice evening”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

I suppose I was looking for something different, not so. I had black pudding with a poached egg on top to start. A large piece of pudding which was quite strong. Duck for main, a little tough. the selection of veg was nice, service was awful. Young inexperianced staff, Helen the chef had her dad give a hand in front of house, they gave us the bottle of wine free to make up, took ages to give our order, over half an hour. We had to ask for bread and the staff were just walking past as if we were not there. They then served a table who arrived after us and were next to us first. We ended up speaking up for bread and the menus. It was busy as it was friday. Very reasonable prices and they all apologised and were vey polite for the late service. We will return as the ambience was delighful.
