Not normally a fan of rice, noodles etc. OH dragged me along having visited with a mate previously and loved it. Despite City Road's somewhat dodgy facades, inside was clean and bright, spartan but functional. Beware if you don't like sharing, benches and tables so not for a romantic meal.
We ordered gyoza and soft shell crab to start. The House special bento box and dompuri (sic?) for main. It all came at once which was a bit overwhelming. Gyoza were gorgeous, soft shell crab a little tasteless. The tuna in the bento box was lovely, fried chicken ditto, boiled rice bit dull. The dompuri (sic) was a mixed seafood one, rice and fish were lovely, the onions and seaweed in the rice making it very tasty. Miso soup was nice but only after you had given it a good stir. A bit rich but probably down to choice.
Full of Japanese and students. Service ok and swift. Not a place for dallying but overall, really good food and not bad value. Eyes obviously bigger than belly and you would be better going for sushi/small dishes or one of the larger bento boxes or rice or noodles dishes than trying to combine them all. Would defo go again.
