Arrived late, had to park on double yellows opposite the pub to ask the way into their car park. Not clearly signposted if at all. Drove down a side street to get in only to be partially blocked by some numbskull who had parked such that it was not possible to turn right into where I wanted to be. Managed to turn left and reverse and circumnavigated the miscreant to get to the car park. Good parking area. Eventually managed to get into the reception, otherwise known as the bar. Place very noisy and having to shout to get the attention of the bar staff. The manager came and told us there was a little problem with the room as the curtain rail had partially come down the previous night, and he'd had no time to get any one to it. Managed our way upstairs and as you would guess there was a problem with the curtain rail because as you drew the curtains the left one slipped to the middle sagging and the right one when drawn did exactly the same and lo and behold the rail came down. Went downstairs and told the wife/partner of the manager and if looks could kill I would have been dead on the spot. Thankfully the manager was a bit more obliging and went straight away to effect a repair. Successful with this he apologised accordingly and left us to it. We then really had no option but to go to the bar and listen to the very loud music as had we gone to bed we wouldn't have been able to sleep because of it, back to the room for the night very cold in the room considering it was November one would have expected the heating to be on but it wasn't and rather than incurring the wrath of the partner (discretion being the better part of valour) wrapped up in the bed partially clothed and slept through until morning. Went to the bathroom to find the shower mat grubby is a generous description and soap dispenser with a short and curly on it, (yuk) Breakfast, good selection of cereals, although there were a number of bottles on the table completely unidentified and got pointed in the direction of the milk. Fruit (black bananas) probably been there a month or so, cooked breakfast nothing to right home about, paid the bill never to return. Would have probably been better sleeping on the sofa at the halls of residence where my daughter stays. Never again.

It's not The Ritz, but where in Cardiff can you get a room for 4 adults, with a 5 min walk to the city centre for £60, including breakfast? For "value for money", it was excellent; if you want a boutique hotel, perhaps look somewhere else.
We were a bit worried having read the most recent reviews about the rooms and the breakfast, but these concerns quickly vanished. Nathan, the landlord / manager, was great, really helpful and a good bloke.
There was a good traditional breakfast upstairs and not much was left by anyone. The family room was spacious and clean.
It's a good pub as well, plenty of sport of the big screens and a nice variety of beer.
Would we return? Of course without hesitation.

The reception was the bar, where drinkers congregated so you waited until everyone was served. The room was poorly decorated and the beds quite hard. Very basic accomodation which is clearly directed at visiting football/rugby males of a drinking disposition. But even then the bar closes for them at the same time as the regulars.

I stayed here a couple of years ago and it was lovely. I was really disappointed when I stayed there recently. It was filthy dirty. When we spoke to the staff about it they were annoyed at us for saying the room hadn't been cleaned and didn't even apologise. Even after a so called re-clean, only the hairs were washed from the bath and the bin had been emptied. Everything else was still dirty, including a dirty sock in one of the draws! Vile place, horrid staff!

Room Tip: Don't go there!

Stayed at the cayo arms for 2 nights, the place is seriously in need of a good clean, there were cobwebs in our room everywhere, base of the bed was filthy, bedroom furnitshire was tatty, fag stumps on our window sill everywhere. The breakfast was terrible, it was obvious that everything was deep fat fried :(
This hotel would be ok if the would sack the cleaner and the cook.

This used to be quite a good city bed-and-breakfast pub with good ale, food, staff and accommodation. It's changed. On a recent stay, the bedroom was clean but the bed had obviously been used by someone since having been made; the corridors to the bedrooms were scruffy and dirty. Food in the evening was good and reasonably priced, the beer was good and there was a good vibe from the local clientele. Breakfast was - well how can we say - slovenly: I arrived in the breakfat room where plates from other guests' breakfasts had not been cleared; I had cereals, two cups of coffee and read my newspaper before someone arrived to take my order. As I waited and had time to look out of the window I saw a large spiders web hanging between the window and the bowl which held sachets of sauces. The waiter/cook/receptionist/cleaner was quite sweet and helpful. I played safe and ordered boiled eggs. A bit of thought and care and it could be good again.
