An budget hotel in terms of price, but that offers a lot more than you would expect in this category. We had a 'queen bed plus sofa' room, which was almost like a suite - very spaceous, and a room which was actually pleasurable to spend time in. All the touches which are often lacking a cheaper hotel (iron, hairdryer, free wi-fi, decent TV with all the stations, USB music cabability, heated towel rail, bathroom mirror demister, wine glasses) were present. Good lighting, heating, sound-insulation. New carpets, fixtures and fittings. Could I fault it? I guess the heating was a little noisy.

Stayed here on a Tuesday night before seeing The Phanthom Of The Opera (fantastic!). I had booked a twin room 'with Canadian beds' but even after handing over my booking form and stating this was given a double room. Also requested quiet room with no lights shining on windows after reading another review. However, was given main road facing room with lights onto the windows! The sheets were not ironed and I wondered if the bed had not been changed since te last occupant. I checked the pillows to find that the pillow cases were stained and after removing them found that the pillows were too ! I rang a housekeeper who came within minutes with three new pillows 'straight from the packages'. I mentioned the state of the sheets and covers and was told that things are done in house but that other guests had mentioned it before. Maybe if they do it in house, perhaps they should invest in a roller iron. Nothing worse than crumpled bedding.
Don't bother with breakfast. Dried-up cold meats and cheeses. Chopped up bits of fruit. Soggy
toast and nothing else very special.
However, would stay again as the location to the bay was minutes away and the staff were very helpful. There is also car parking available which is a plus.
If you're looking for a brilliant restaurant and love Indian DON'T miss Mowgli at Mermaid Quay. FANTASTIC!!!

Room Tip: Room 505 faced road and had lights shining on windows. Not too noisy though.

The price of the room was very very good - it was not the Ritz but what do you expect. Everything was clean and the room was very large. Great, friendly staff who were helpful.

I tried to use the fitness room but most of the machines were not working, other than that it was fine.

The walk into Cardiff centre was only about 15 mins which is not that bad at all.

Room Tip: I would say the higher floor the better but I am not sure, I was on 4th floor right outside a door w...

We had a Suite, and for the price we paid for it, it was excellent. The bedroom is big enough on it's own, without the additional lounge area ! It comes fully equipped with nice little extras (a bottle of water, biscuits, iron, shampoo etc in the bathroom) which you wouldn't get in a Premier Inn for example. The whole Hotel is clean and warm.
Our only downside was parking. It is free parking on site, but there aren't enough spaces for the size of the Hotel. We couldn't get a space at half past 5 in the afternoon, and had to park where we shouldn't have done.
The free Wi-Fi is easily accessible and reliable.
Apart from the parking, we were very impressed with this Hotel, and would certainly stay there again. Very convenient for the Millennium Centre and Cardiff Bay, and very good value, with friendly and helpful staff. Well done !!

We picked this hotel due to the location and price. This was in a very good location, right next to the Red Dragon Centre, and quite close to the Bay and Millennium Centre. The room was a very nice size, We had a double bed with a couch in the room. We were quite happy as the room also had the beverage centre with the hot water kettle along with some tea and instant coffee. There was also a hair dryer for post shower! There was also a heated towel rack, which was nice.

The room overall was quite nice. We got the room at a very good rate through another hotel site. The walls are thin, and you can hear things around you occasionally. The pillows were also hard. Previous reviews I read stated the pillow problem. I brought my own, as a precaution. I was thankful, as my husband complained about the hard pillows. There are responses in other reviews from the Hotel they are going to be changing out the pillows starting January 2013. So just be aware that this could still be a problem.

When researching this hotel, i could not find information regarding the breakfast. The breakfast can be paid when you check in and was £9/person per day. The breakfast was alright. It offered various breads, bacon, sausage, eggs (scrambled and poached?), fruit and juices. They had some lovely single jars of jams which I liked. The breakfast wasn't bad but seemed to be a bit overpriced. I wouldn't knock it though. It was a decent place to get breakfast, after falling out of bed in the morning.

I love the location of this place, as it was just a bit of a walk to the Bay area. I was in Cardiff to see my Doctor Who Experience! So it wasn't very far at all. I think this is a very good value stay and would happily stay here again!

Room Tip: If you can get one facing the back side of the building, I think those would be quiet and give you a...

I read A LOT of reviews on this property before finally booking two rooms for our family of 6 for a short break before Christmas. In the end I give it a rating of 4.

On the plus side it is really well located for the Wharf area, Millenium stadium, DR Who experience and St David's is a nice 20 minute walk (we had a weekend of blue sky :D). The red dragon centre is easily accessible across a large car park and has lots of options for family dining as well as a bowling centre and cinemas. The rooms were a good price at GBP 95 each/night including breakfast for all of us. Each room had two large beds, large bathroom with bathtub and seperate toilet area and usual hotel style mod cons. I rang the hotel to book and they were very helpful in addressing my concerns by allocating adjoining rooms in a quiet part of the hotel. All staff were very polite and helpful during our stay.

Breakfast was excellent and despite hearing people (mostly hungover) around us complaining - I thought they did a really good job of turning over tables promptly and keeping a good selection of hot food available on the buffet. The restaurant is only just big enough for the hotel, so it will obviously struggle if every guest turns up for breakfast just half an hour before service finishes! We went for breakfast just before 9 and were seated immediately and enjoyed a really good breakfast on both mornings.

Parking was free and with the central location and excellent weather we did not use our car at all during our stay.

The only downside of this hotel is definitely the cleanliness standards, especially in bathrooms as mentioned in previous reviews. My first overall impression was that the rooms were very good and had obviously been professionally cleaned. But on closer inspection there was some mould around the soap holder in both bathrooms and the odd strange hair etc on the floor or stuck to a wiped over surface. The soap holders are wire racks and would be very difficult to clean around properly - They should be removed!! It was nothing that couldn't be fixed with a little more attention to detail and a change in decor to allow for a neater job to be easily achieved. The bedding, carpets and other surfaces were all very clean.

I would really hope that the hotel management are on to this shortfall in cleanliness standards.

It could easily be a consistently excellent place to stay once it is addressed.
