My wife loves Cardiff shopping and we stay overnight 4 or 5 times a year. Booked the Plaza as we had stayed in most of the other Cardiff central hotels and thought we would give this a try. Bit more expensive than the other we have stayed in so I suppose I was expecting a bit more. Overall the stay was okay but on reflection I personally prefer the Marriott or Radisson. When we arrived the receptionist was very pleasant and announced we had been given a complimentary upgrade? I booked through booking.com and selected an executive room at an extra cost. When I got my bill I found that I was still charged the original quoted price. When I queried it I was told we had been given a junior suite? Looked to me the same as the picture of an executive suite so I don't know what extra we gained. Reception too busy on check out to be bothered to get to the bottom of it. Spa was okay.....but just okay.
Breakfast in the morning was quite good with a reasonable selection. The staff were polite and attentive.
The one thing that spoilt it for me was the hotel bar. We had a mid afternoon drink and it was relatively relaxed. Went out for a meal in the evening and looked forward to coming back for a couple of quite nightcaps in the bar. Quiet was definately not what we found. The bar was heaving with young people and nowhere to sit. There was also some sort of sound system going which made it difficult to talk. We soon realised that most of the people were not hotel residents. Not sure if this was a one off or a regular meeting place for people prior to going clubbing. It would have been quieter in Weatherspoons.
Parking overnight was in the NCP opposite. Even with a reduction for hotel guests it cost £18.50.
As I've previously stated I think it would be the Marriott or Radisson next time back in Cardiff unless someone can suggest an alternative.
