“Wonderful hotel - watch the billing though!”
Reviewed January 14, 2008

This is a beautiful hotel with a lovely pool, jacuzzi, spa and gym, all of which we used. The rooms are lovely & it is very central yet not in any way noisy. I stayed at this hotel two years ago and went back as I liked it so much, however when we stayed there previously we paid in advance via Expedia and where charged again at the hotel - it was sorted out quickly but is grief you don't really want. When we stayed again this time we were charged the wrong amount (despite the correct amount being confirmed in an email from the hotel as this time we booked direct). They said they would sort it out when we checked out but as this was on my debit card it did leave me short of cash whilst in Cardiff. The person who we booked with also failed to notify the spa that we were on a residential spa package which meant that when we went to get our treatments we were not given the robes and slippers as we should have been and were then asked for payment from them which took some time to sort out and did somewhat counteract the relaxing effects of the spa treatments! However, despite these problems it is a lovely hotel and I would still go back but I will be checking and double checking my bill!! I also recommend the Fat Cat bar across the road for very good food and excellent service (I found the hotel restaurant menu very limited for a vegetarian).

We were guests at a wedding at the hotel but managed to avoid any ancient mariners on the way. We went to Cardiff Bay afterwards instead - worth a visit if you need cobwebs or whatever blowing away. The organisation of the event was very good and catering was above average. Good disco too. The hotel rooms are fairly bland but well fitted out and spacious. We overlooked the town hall and a mini London, sorry Cardiff, eye. The free wireless internet connection was good on day 1 but had crashed for day 2; but then this is wireless networking all over. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The scrambled egg in particular was top notch. Take care with the mini-bar. In theory if you move any item in the fridge then it's registered on their computer and you will be charged for it. We'd brought a bottle of champers with us and moved most of the things in the fridge to get it to fit in. The "personal use" space only takes 2 half-bottles - completely pointless. Then we read the notice in small print on the inside of the fridge door. Aaargh! However, all's well that ends well. The receptionist was quite accommodating and we did not have to pay for moving the bottles around the fridge. Thank goodness for human beings. They are not all aliens in Cardiff despite Torchwood!

I stayed at the Park Plaza for one night while travelling on business. All the staff who I encountered were very friendly and helpful. I asked for a quiet room and the check in person arranged for me to have a room at the back overlooking the courtyard. It was very quiet! The staff in the restaurant were very friendly. My room was spacious with very smart decor. My only small caveat: a couple of bottles of complimentary mineral water in the room would have been nice.
I would definitely stay at the Park Plaza again when visiting Cardiff.

This hotel looks very ordinary on the outside, but is in fact very well appointed inside. Has very nice art in rooms and common areas. Found staff reasonably helpful - perhaps a bit offhand.
Buffet breakfast very good. Having to park in parking station across the road and only being able to have it validated once during each day bit of a pain. Overall very nice rooms.

  • Liked — Nicely appointed rooms
  • Disliked — Having to pay extra for parking and then only being able to have ticket validated once.

I decided to take my husband away for the night for a break away from children!! I booked us in to an executive room for a special break. When we arrived at the hotel i was immediatly impressed. There is an ncp car park opposite where you can park and get a discounted rate. The hotel staff where extremly helpful and had us checked in and up to the room in about 10 mins. When we entered the room i was very impressed it was extremely clean big lovely bed which 4 people could easily fit in!! We where greeted with 2 free bottles of wine, basket of fruit, bathrobes and slippers. The bathroom was huge with a big bath power shower and lovely chrome accsesories. On the night we went to the laguna resturant where we had a gorgeous 5* meal and the chocolate foundant is to die for and it didnt cost to much. After a lovely quiet very comfortable night our check out was very quick and proffesional. Amazing hotel definetly reccommend!!!

Parking is in NCP at £10 per day! Room was clean but couldn't see what was 'superior' about it, especially as the WC was supported by a block of wood! Towels in my opinion were not fluffy and luxurious. Bed was comfortable and the pillows were fine. Observed traffice noise throughout the day and night. Bar very popular with non residents so had to run the gauntlet to access the hotel at night. Within walking distance to Millenium Stadium and town centre. Breakfast offered a good choice of hot and cold foods. Bar staff appeared lacking in customer service skills.
