“Perfect roti chanai”
Review of KL Canolog - CLOSED

KL Canolog
Cuisines: Malaysian
Description: KL Canolog is a cafe that was located at Wellfield Road in Roath, Cardiff, and has now evolved into a Pop Up Cafe, making our appearances at numerous food events, fetes and fairs in Cardiff. We now regularly take part in events such as the Womanby Street Street Food Pop Up where we run our Malaysian food stall at the Urban Tap House every fortnight. To keep up to date to where and when you can try our food next please follow us on twitter. Thanks.

“Perfect roti chanai”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

Stumbled upon this little gem after shopping for running shoes. Having lived in SE Asia for 5 years I have been searching for authentic Singapore/Malay/Indonesian cuisine ever since I came back. And now am delighted to have found it. Roti chanai originates from India but the Malays have made it there own. Perfect for breakfast, dipped in a mild and fragrant dahl, with a cup of real kopi c, I was in heaven. I will definitely become a regular.

“Frequently meet friends here for lunch and its always a pleasure”
Reviewed July 12, 2013 via mobile

Really good food which is improved by the friendly welcome. It is a pleasure to go to a restaurant and be welcomed in this way. The mains are great, but I also love the cakes and the sago in coconut milk with a syrup is really delicious.

“Great Value, Great Food, Great Coffee”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

We've been here twice and absolutely love this little deli come cafe come restaurant. This place provides authentic Malaysian food (although I am no expert). The owner when not too busy will happily give recommendations and information about the food if you are not sure what to order or want to know a little more about the provenance of the dishes.

The cafe provides an excellent range of teas and coffees as well as delicious gluten free home made cakes (the lemongrass and kafir leaf is particularly good!)

In terms of meals, we've tried the roti and chicken satay and both are excellent. For mains, the nasi lemak is delicious, as is the chicken briyani and the fried rice.

We were so pleased to see the opening hours here have now been extended to 8.30, and takeaway is available too! The prices are extremely competitive, cheaper than pub grub and much tastier food.

The service is individualized, if not the most polished I have ever received, but this just adds to the charm.

Keep up the good work, it's great to see such a high quality, good value and unusual independent cafe in the Roath area doing well.

“Friendly staff with great freshly cooked Malaysian food.”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

KL Canolog has been open for about 6 months but this was my first visit. The Malaysian food is authentic, very tasty and a great alternative to our usual choice of Indian food. The atmosphere is charming and relaxing. It is spotlessly clean. To top it all, they do takeaways!

“Tasty Malaysian food!”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

My favourites are the nasi lemak and also the wraps. Their gluten free cakes have Malaysian flavours and I especially like the lemongrass kafir lime cake.... absolutely yummy!
