“Was nice.”
Reviewed April 1, 2013 via mobile

We go here often but though the food is not bad they are getting a bit protentious and have you wait to be taken to a table which for a pub is a bit silly so i dont know if they have other silly things on there minds to stop the enjoyment of this pub but this new setup is not working as it slows everything down.dont fix whats not broken otherwise i wont be returning.

Hello

sorry to hear your concerns over new procedures we use at busy times. We would like to assure you that this system is only used when exceptionally busy and not used all the time. I would like to thank you for being a loyal customer and look forward to seeing you soon.

Regards

“Oh dear”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

Well, I wish we could tell you about the food as we didn't get that far. We actually drove 14 miles from Newport to get to this pub. When we arrived with our baby in a car seat, we told the young server that there was two of us but that we would need a space for the baby. She walked off without saying anything and came half of the way back and motioned for us to follow. When we walked up, there were two seats opposite each other on a busy walkway, nowhere to put the baby.

When we told her this, she responded "Well, that's all we got". I asked about tables becoming available and she said "It's going to be a half an hour wait. No, hang on, an hour wait". At that we started to walk out. A young male server encountered us as we were walking out and suggested we talk to the manager and seemed genuinely concerned that we had had a bad experience, but by then we'd heard it all.

The girl had clearly never received any training so I can't really blame her. I can blame a pub that gets her to represent them, however.

Im sorry to hear about your visit at the Oyster Catcher. I would like the chance to correct this first impression of our team. We would advize that all customers should book a table if certain needs are required tho we do try to accomodate all our guest as best we can depending on how busy we are. I would like to ask you to contact the management team to arrange another visit to the Oyster Catcher to show you a true experience with our team.

“First visit”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

Had tickets for the Cardiff Devils game so decided to eat here first. Visited this pub on Valentines day, arrived at 16.30, got drinks at the bar and found a seat. Food was lovely, we both ordered the Cornish pie with chips and peas, as it was a Thursday and we ordered off the large plate menu we had desserts thrown in, mmmm yummy Nickerbockaglory (sorry a bit of trouble with the spelling) In all we had a lovely meal in a very nice pub. The only downside was that there were lots of reserved tables some of which were not used whilst we were there and we spent 2 hours there, we ended up having a table for 4 because there were no table for 2's available. lots of other customers were just walking around looking for tables but couldnt find any. This didnt spoil our visit but it was worth mentioning. Would deffinately return.

“Nice location thats all”

Overpriced drinks with very average food and service, for the money you can find so many more better places near by. The best thing about the place is having a drink outside if we ever get any sun.

“Poor quality food, very dissapointed”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

I visited the oystercatcher on the 6th of January for a family meal to celebrate my daughters birthday, The tables we were eventually shown to had food , empty crayon packs and serviettes strewn below, it was early in the day so not from a previous diner that day, we went and ordered and paid for our meals and the meals were delivered quite promptly, unfortunatley i had ordered the t bone steak that was described as the best steak ever, maybe at a different restaurant it may have been, i can honestly say it was the worst i have ever attempted to eat, it was cold and fatty, stringy, gristly, disgusting, the accompanying chips had also obviously been previously cooked and were cold and tasteless, the large flat mushroom was the size of a 10p coin, i would have liked to have seen a small flat mushroom, lol, the other diners meals arrived and after waiting and asking for cutlery as there wasnt any on the table they also said the food was cold and we all left very dissapointed, this is a shame as this is in a nice location, i dont know about the hungry horse, all i know is that we all left hungry and would have eaten a horse,, we wasted our hard earnedcash and would be unlikely to use this restaurant again
